Has now outcoached Crean, Groce and the over hyped screamy Matt Painter.

Painter in 2 overtimes, could not devise a plan to beat NU even after Northwestern's big men all fouled out.

NU had the 6'5" (demps) and 6'2" (Crawford) guys guarding the 7 footer (Hammons) and Purdue could barely get the guy the ball. Barely looked inside.

Every play run by the Boilermakers used too much time and they never got one shot off to end a half, end the game or either overtime. Always waited till 6 seconds to start running the play, Collins would send 2 defenders and trap the ball each time. You would think Matt Painter would have learned after the second time.

Got to give Collins some props. Winning with the shit they have is impressive.

He didn't outcoach Painter. Purdue should have won at the end of the first overtime on a clear foul to Hammons.

Also, one of the criticisms of Painter is that he isn't screamy enough. At least half the Big Ten coaches ride the refs much harder than him.

Purdue just isn't a good team. They will be next year with or without Hammons.

So, you think you are getting the foul call on the 1.3 seconds full length court pass turn and shoot? NO WAY! Doesnt Happen and everyone knows it. Was he fouled, YES

After that, Painter was 100% outcoached! His time out plays not once got executed, his final play of the game was absent. Waiting to foul or not.

Part of him being outcoached is the fact Hammons doesnt hustle at all.

You cant win with a 7 footer v 6'5" guys in double OT as a coach, hang them up.

Collins made painter look foolish

If they keep winning these shitty games.

Talent wise, they arent even close to a NCAA team, but Indiana, Illinois and Purdue will all try to argue at the end of the year why they are NCAA teams and if that is the case, the team that beat all 3 should get in.

Collins outcoached him in the second overtime I guess. He didn't the whole game.

You can keep Collins if you want. I'll take Painter. We'll compare who does better over the next few years.

 No, just the least experienced team in the Big Ten. The rebuild is almost complete!

Purdue probably isn't a tournament team either, especially with that bad loss, but Northwestern will likely have 15+ losses by the end of the year.

Collins had 3 players sagging into the middle in both overtimes and Purdue still couldnt get a solid shot. It was like watching a 6th grade game!

If you attend any NU game, the atmosphere is much more of a Math club than a basketball game. Lotsa white guys in sweaters, with collared shirts underneath and glasses. Thats the casual look.

The entire NU bench of assistants does look like Collins employed the math club for stats on everything.

If he gets some decent talent, not even great talent, but good shooters, they will be a tough team to play every year and NU will need to build him a real place to play instead of that elementary school gym they play in now.

Purdue kind of sucks though. They have flashes of quality but in general this is how they are.

Northwestern was a tough team to play before too. That isn't changing. That looked like a Carmody win yesterday.

The funny thing is that I think Collins wants to get away from that kind of stuff. I bet in two years that Northwestern isn't playing games like that very often. He just has no choice this year.

You can tell me that Purdue isnt good but the pure athleticism alone is MUCH better than Northwestern. Those guys are a step away from a good IM team. When they lose the big man from Romania, then its over. They are an IM squad.

They do have more athleticism but Northwestern still has good players. The role players look like they come from the math team but they have enough talent to compete when an average to below average team has a bad shooting night.

They have the enough talent to compete on a particular night where they are really up at home. They have now put together a streak. That is coaching.

Great job so far for Collins.

There is not a chance in the world they are an NCAA tournament team. They should not even be competitive in the NIT with their talent. Four years from now will be different. I wouldn't be surprised to see them be one of those teams that makes a long NIT run in the next 1-2 years that propels them into the NCAA the next year.

None of those three will be in the big dance, unless they win the Big 10 Tournament.

Now they beat Wisconsin, at Wisconsin. Also led most of second half, so didnt just stay close and win at the end.

Was told Big 10 toughest conf in the country

They had one guy score 30 pts with 6 3's,I think. Can't remember the last time NU had a b-ball team winning like this.

Now that is an impressive win.

I think Drew Crawford proved he isn't working with no talent though.

2011-2012 they went 8-10 in conference which is probably what Northwestern ends up doing this year.

Drew Crawford isnt a top 150 recruit and isnt starting in most programs and if that is your best player, I think thats no talent

or is the Big10 just Over rated?

He'd play a lot on pretty much all the non-ranked Big Ten teams. You don't go for 30 points at Wisconsin if you aren't good.
bigfan wrote:

I don't think it is overrated. Northwestern is playing well and is playing closer to the other rebuilding programs in the Big Ten. It is surprising but I don't think it's a reflection on the conference that Northwestern isn't going to go 3-15 this year.
