I've thought I heard about this. Does this exist? I've heard talk of places that have alcohol and chair-to-chair waitstaff as well.

Is this a real thing, or a figment of my inauguration?

The Lazy Boy chair thing is being done at a lot of places.

Yeah, I've done this a few times. Spent $60 on a couple tickets and Mrs. Dr. Ken reclines back and sleeps through the whole movie. Had to finish the bottle of wine on my own.

Can't blame her, though. The movie sucked.

iPic in Bolingbrook and South Barrington, or Studio Movie Grill in Wheaton. You reserve your actual seats, which can range from very nice "regular" reclining seats to full recline lounge chairs complete with pillows and blankets. A waiter comes by to take your order, for either the standard popcorn/candy/drink or fancier fare such as chicken fingers or BLT wraps. The actual cost (for the standard seats) isn't much more than a regular theater. Because none of these is particularly close to my house, I typically only do it on special occasions or for certain movies (as the sound and picture is also premium quality).

The Movie industry should appeal to these people. Home Theatre subscriptions. $99 a showing for new movies, so they dont need to go out. lol

Do you think that's not true? I'm the world's biggest fan of Hunger Games!!!!! But I like to wait until it comes out on DVD. Still, I'm a way bigger fan than those who dress up as Katniss and stand in line on opening night. Believe me when I tell you and who are you to judge?

Been to the fancy one in Bolingbrook a few times. Not worth it to go there very often, but a nice change of pace for special occasion.

Still waiting for it on On Demand. You'll have to ask one of the lesser fans who went to see it at the theater.

Hollywood Theater in Woodridge is like that. Never been, but heard real good things...

That Studio Movie Grill in Wheaton is a damned fine set-up.
Excellent quality screen and lots of room between rows.
Costs no more than any other west suburban movie house.
Food is better quality than I ever expected.
Good service that doesn't interfere with the movie.
Full bar, reasonably priced with daily specials, even on the weekend.
I thought I'd hate the place but it totally surprised me.

Studio Movie Grill is infinitely more comfortable and a better experience.

Most likely, but perhaps not. Almost Famous is one of my favorite movies ever and I could have gone and seen that in theatres but didn't. You don't always know how much you'll like a given movie until you've seen it, obviously. I don't think it's accurate to suggest that not seeing a movie in theatres means that you are only allowed to have a limited appreciation of it later.

No, and I'm not suggesting such a thing. But I don't think a real movie fan waits for films to be released on DVD. Would you agree? To me, being a fan of something suggests a more than casual interest in a subject. Just because I state that I'm the biggest fan of NASCAR on this board doesn't make it true. There has to be some expectation of the things a NASCAR fan does. (Cue the meth jokes!)

No, not a fan of movie theaters. I'm a fan of movies.

The concept just seems outdated. It made sense when people had 18 inch low definition televisions but just like the telegraphs and newspapers they are obsolete. It's just progress.

I think there is still something cool about seeing a movie in a theater full of people for the first time. Especially certain movies with great cinematography
