Prepare to pass the remote to the wife or girlfriend for a few weeks. Sorry pittmike, you lose either way.

We get hockey, if you are in to that kind of thing. The rest of the events are designed as some sort of mechanism for sad/enlightening/inspiring stories about people who spend 4 years training for a sporting event that literally isn't even shown at any other point in the year unless it is counter programming to good sports. Hey, look at this speed skater! He lost 4 years ago! He was sad! Now, he trained hard for four years and he wants to WIN! He has two kids, and it is hard to spend 9 hours going in a circle on an ice rink. Root for him!

Oh yeah, and now we basically have the X games section too but they don't have the snowmobiles yet but even with that you only really care about Shaun White anyways.

So, basically, it's time to watch figure skating and speed skating and short track speed skating and be bored.

Go Olympics! Go Team USA! Don't get blown up!

that's one thing that's always hard for me to comprehend- is basically everyone in the Olympics rich? or 'sponsored' by someone/something ? how can anyone have time to train that hard over that long of a period for no monetary gain ? i mean you'd basically have to quit any job you had and dedicate yourself completely to it

for basically no reason at all, as rick points out...

what drew people to the olympics to begin with was the fact that the athletes were amateurs. that was the allure, in general, for people. ever since the olympians became professional, sponsored, and leagues were created for them to compete year round...all it is now is just a bigger stage for them.

the more social media coverage we get on things, the more insufferable everything becomes.

I am looking forward to just how bad this thing is being run though.

I think I'm officially off the "An Olympics in Chicago would have been nice" bandwagon. Chicago is basically the Russia of the United States.

Has a city benefited long term from having the olympics in recent history? Seems not

I was reminded that Salt Lake City existed during the 2002 olympics.

C'mon women's figure skating usually has at least a couple of boneriffic chicks prancing around in those skimpy outfits. Hell, Dorothy Hamill still gets it done for me

Let's wait and see how safe the luge run is before writing that off.

I sit there glued to the TV waiting for the televised lip slip during a triple sowko.

There are several of the events that I enjoy watching in the Olympics. I don't make it appointment tv, but if I am home and watching it is pretty good.

I like bobsled, luge, and hockey. Curling is amusing. And the women's figure skating. I'll be looking for labia.
