At least Bernstein has a sense of humor. This Hoge has zero personality, no sense of humor and is way too angry and pissy. When you listen to him you find yourself asking "Why are you mad?"

Dispassionate "thinking fans" with disdain for the masses, seemingly unaware that in the grand scheme of it, they are the masses. I'd throw Baffoe in there for being the cloniest of Bernstein clones if he looked like every polo-shirted Big Ten grad roaming Lincoln Park and not, you know, a big weird ginger.

The thing no one seems to get about the Bernstein approach, and I'll even use a sports analogy, is that it's it's like a pitcher throwing a change-up. The efficacy of the change is defined by its relationship to the fastball. If all you throw are changes with no fastballs, eventually you're screwed, because you're not changing pace. You're just throwing nothing but, ironically, meatballs.

Ignatius may have a portion of students from wealthy families but its core is educating the high achieving children of people across the socio economic spectrum. In my experience, I would stereotype the average Ignatius student as a kid from Beverly with parents who both work one of whom has a government job. Ignatius does not deny admission due to need and it shows in its population. Even further, you are most likely a decade older than me. Ignatius almost closed its doors during your era. In my time, it was severely run down physically. It was and is hardly Latin, Parker or even Loyola for that matter in terms of endowment.

You are extrapolating the success you see from its graduates to the beginning point of those students.
