Strongly considering Courtney Barnett @ Empty Bottle next month too, but middle of the week shows are brutal on old guys.

keep meaning to check out Waxahatchee, seems like i hear something about them everyday

You like chick bands, I'm sure you'd like her. She's not exactly upbeat and uplifting though.

i didn't like that London Grammar....

but yea, oddly enough i do

Warpaint is the latest one...but they aren't very upbeat or uplifting either..so we'll see

this spring is an embarrassment of riches, so many good shows now here comes another one

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/chicago/20 ... bs_ma.html

Quote:
Frequent collaborators Freddie Gibbs and Madlib are slated to release their collaborative full-length effort, Piñata, on March 18 via Madlib Invazion. Following singles "Deeper," "Shame," and "Thuggin'," the duo have now dropped off a tune called "Robes" featuring Odd Future's Earl Sweatshirt and Domo Genesis. The LP is also set to feature Raekwon, Scarface, Ab-Soul, Danny Brown, and others. You can take a listen to all four Piñata singles at the bottom of this post.

The pair will hit the road throughout North America this spring in support of the LP. That tour opens with a performance at Metro on March 7, and tickets for the Chicago show are on sale now.

I want to see Phantogram in Milwaukee, but haven't gotten tix yet.

Oh, and One Direction, both nights at Soldier Field.

I didn't go both nights, but I'm glad I was able to make it to at least one of them (Friday 2/14). On average, there was probably 5 minutes of banter with the audience in between songs. Setlist was (entirely, IIRC) comprised of audience requests- complete with Tweedy politely mocking some girl's unique choice of Heavy Metal Drummer (or maybe it was Jesus, etc. or California Stars) towards the end of the set. I wasn't expecting an elaborate production, and I was right not to- the stage setup was pretty much the cliche'd glass of water on a barstool you'd get with a stand-up act or some poetry reading.
It was great to be at a show where every other person wasn't holding their cell phone up the entire time to film it and then post it on YouTube. Every once in a while a flash would go off and heads would turn in that general direction.

Quote:
I'm Always in Love
How to Fight Loneliness
Should've Been in Love
In a Future Age
Muzzle of Bees
Be Not So Fearful (Bill Fay)
Pick Up the Change
Wait Up (Uncle Tupelo)
Sky Blue Sky
Hesitating Beauty
If That's Alright
The Community Song
Radio King (Golden Smog)
Black Eye (Uncle Tupelo)
Airline to Heaven
The Ruling Class (Loose Fur)
I Got a Woman (Led Zeppelin)
Heavy Metal Drummer
Jesus, Etc.
California Stars

Encore:
Casino Queen
Laminated Cat (Loose Fur)
We've Been Had (Uncle Tupelo)
Misunderstood

I've been to a handful of solo acoustic gigs in the past, and afterwards it still felt like I had gone to a show. This was a lot more laid back/informal- not sure what I'd compare it to... Regardless, it was well worth it despite having to find a place to park on a Friday night near the Vic with mountains of snow seemingly lining every street that didn't already have permit-based parking.

I'll admit, they're growing on me........slowly.

But they could not be at a worse place. One of the worst venues for concerts, IMO.

I used to be the same way. Any song by them - instant skip.

A few songs on the last album are pretty good IMO: Obvious bicycle, Unbelievers, and even Diane Young (played out as it may be)

Was interested to see Against Me! but it sold out. Fuck.

Pearl Jam is being rumored for Lollapalooza.

Just watched them on Kimmel from earlier this week.
The level of musicianship displayed was quite impressive.

Going to St. Vincent and Waxahatchee in April. Strongly considering Speedy Ortiz and The Men as well.

April is a crazy month for shows......stupid adult responsibilities.

Have to thank Bagels for the heads-up on this. I missed the Lolla show last year...first tour I've missed since 1995. Sucks that it's Tinley Park and a Thursday night, but we got 13th row, right of center.

That's a pretty solid lineup. I might need to check this out, even if it's on the lawn.
