Ok, I got it. Lets get Jon Huntsman to buy the Cubs!

One of the big issues is the new Jumbotron in Left field. I may be in the minority on this, but I say put the Jumbotron where the old screboard is. Use the framing of the old scoreboard to retain a bit of the old feel, but put the Jumbotron right there. Then the fans get the best possible sightline of the Jumbotron and the concerns about blocking the views of rooftops on Waveland are gone as well.

I know a lot of people who will not go to games at Wrigley Field, including me, who would go if the Cubs stadium was more accessible. Big cities are dying a slow death & are losing population & businesses to the suburbs.

congrats scorehead.... you have just posted quite possibly the dumbest thing i have ever read on this board!

to celebrate, i'm going to kick back and wait for the american suburbs to take over the world because by the year 2100 there will be no "cities" everyone will have their nice little spaghetti-streeted suburbs along with all of the $500k-1mil houses with 3+ car garages that the recovering economy can create! how the hell did dougEP end up the civil engineer and not you.... this bold vision of the suburbification of reality that you've got..... it's the future man. don't let anyone tell you that's so 1955 and knock you off of your high horse, cuz man the view from up there is so bright that i'm gonna need shades.

(....deal with it)

btw whats the name of the logical fallacy that is "because it's true for me it's true for everyone/everything"? if there isn't one i say we call it the scorehead fallacy.

So why can't the Cubs begin renovations on everything except Jumbotron and sign? How much revenue could honestly be generated from a fucking jumbotron? More than a hotel? Seriously?

They're going to move b/c of one rooftop owner? Suuuuure. OK.

Basically, they don't want to start because, due to their legal agreement, the sign and jumbotron can only be added as part of an entire expansion. If they perform the rest without the sign and jumbotron, the roof top owners could argue that they are not actually part of the expansion plan and cannot be erected due to their agreement.

No, if they threaten it and get told to fuck off, they have nothing. Then they either have to leave just to prove a point and make good on a foolish bluff or bite the bullet and stay where it makes the most economic sense. It seems to be getting lost that the Cubs have gotten huge concessions from the City and the State. They're being allowed to grab a public street for themselves, for God's sake. No, the don't have all the modern amenities that they could have if they built a stadium to their exact specifications in an empty field in Huntley. That's a negative for them. But it is far outweighed by the fact that they have one of only two surviving ballparks from near the turn of the 20th Century in the heart of a huge population center. And that is a positive so much greater than the Jumbotron that every other team has that it's ridiculous.

Ricketts is not a philanthropist or a protector of some public trust. if he could fill his pockets faster in Schaumburg or Rosemont, he wouldn't threaten. He would already be building.

How does Rickett's not realize & use the leverage that he has with owning the Cubs? I would imagine that if Cuban would have bought the Cubs, he would have handled this whole situation a little bit different.

Rickett's is a silver spooner though, & the 2nd generation very seldom has as much business acumen as the first. I have yet to see any business acumen from Rickett's.

Who has the sack to tell the Cubs to go fuck themselves? Come on now...

If Rickett's was smart he would schedule a meeting with Rosemont immediately.

And Emanuel would tell him to go and Ricketts would say, "Uh, oh, uh, I didn't really mean move, per se..."

No fucking way Rahm would tell the Cubs to go. No way. You think Rahm wants to be known for the rest of his life & career as the Chicago mayor who forced the Cubs to leave? Come on...

You don't get it. The Cubs aren't going anywhere. It would be a silly idle threat. It's pointless. A threat has to be realistic to be a viable negotiating ploy. The Cubs aren't drawing 3 million in the suburbs without a premium team. Anyone with any sense understands that. Emanuel know it. So does Ricketts. So they just moved beyond that silly posturing. That's one thing Ricketts has done right.

Ricketts already has added to making the park uglier with that dumb Toyota sign.
NO MORE SIGNS. The Cubs have not won a pennant but have had teams close and Hendry had no "sign" money. It's just greed. Start building up the other stuff in the park and save the signs for last. I think they are broke and are using this sign shit as a smokescreen.

The Cubs absofuckinglutly would draw 3 million fans in the suburbs. The would probably draw more in the suburbs. Imagine the new Wrigley Field in the suburbs with PARKING! Do you realize how many professional sports teams have fled the city for the suburbs?

The key would be to have it be at a place with public transportation, and have housing and bars around it.

I know. The suburbs suck and have nothing good and YEAH CITY GO!

The only reason that Cubs fans travel in such large #'s to places like Atlanta, San Diego, Denver, Phoenix.........is because of Wrigley Filed.

That's based on absofuckinglutly nothing. You just think people love a shitty baseball team because it's called the Cubs. How can you be so ahistorical? The Cubs don't have some divine right to draw fans. They have Wrigley Field. It isn't in Schaumburg and can never be in Schaumburg. No matter how much fake Disneyesque infrastructure you surround a fake version of Wrigley Field with. The Suburbs are great! That's where everyone wants to be! GO SUBURBS!!!!!!!!

The Yankees tore down Yankee Stadium. They still draw fans, its all about winning. If Fenway closed tomorrow I dont think the Red Sox would have trouble filling up the new place.

No. They're really not. Guys from the suburbs think Cooper's Hawk is fine dining. Fuckin' Jed Clampett motherfuckers.

  Really Scorehead? The Jets and Giants fled New Jersey for their new stadium in New Jersey. Dallas fled the suburb of Irving for the suburb of Arlington. The Patriots fled the suburb of Foxboro for the....oh, the suburb of Foxboro. You expect me to count those?

So the answer is no, you can't name more than 5 teams that fled the city for the suburbs this century. Good talk.

The Yankees tore down Yankee stadium and put up a new park right across the street. They have also won 27 World Series titles since the Cubs won their last one so I think they would probably get a little bit more slack.
