2 weeks ago, I ran into one of my semi sources. No, not good friends, but enough now that when I run into the guy I can talk cubs. He was excited about castro for this year due to strength improvements. Something he said Castro never had done, a real working out program. Now pecota has come out and the player with the single biggest improvement they expect is Castro.

Yes, I have some greater expectations when 2 unrelated sources are looking for drastic improvement. Plus, Hendry cant have that many picks that dont turn into anything.

Dude being strong isn't his problem. It's his tendency to be an aloof bastard who's not paying attention as hits are screaming his direction in the field. Fine get stronger great but I'd rather get him on some "Focusin".

Focus will come with age, but as it was stated to me, the guy has amazing knack to get bat on ball. Add some strength and some maturity, might be good,

Pecota is a really conservative measurement. They rarely give anyone upside improvements.

I agree some FOCUS in the field wouldnt hurt.

But while my source can be blowing smoke up my ass, Pecota doesnt give a shit about my ass.

I disagree. I mean, Id love him to play heads up in the field, but the most important thing is that he starts hitting again.

I see a bounceback year at the plate. You just dont hit like he did and then forget how.

Well then I would agree with the caveat that "strength" isn't his issue and thus not a corrective measure. It's more about adjustments to adjustments right? Cause he was hitting when he wasn't as strong.

Nah, if we're gonna be spending time training I want him throwing and fielding. The focus thing hopefully comes with age but so far I'm not convinced. He should have that by now. He's still in the little league phase of just looking around.

shows you why PECOTA sucks! Did it incorporate his weight program? No it did not. How did it come up with the projection? Fitting a line to dots in space.

Screw the defense. Just hit .300 with an OBP over .330 and I will be happy.

Have no idea, but they rarely give anyone an improvement. They are usually right as well on that fact.

Of course he'll be better. Can't be any worse. Any moron could tell you that! Even I'd lay $20 on that!

But they didnt just say he would be better, they are saying he will have the largest batting average improvement on any player they evaluate.

What's his PECOTA, what 'rogue posted? I'll lay $10 his average is above .265 and a separate $10 he hits more than 14 homers.

I hope he starts drawing more walks and adds "bunting for a hit" to his game.

Nope those were numbers that I think he will be at. I'll take that bet . I might have gone a little conservative on the batting avg and doubles but I feel good about the HR's.

In the world of Pecota, thats a Huge Improvement. They are really conservative. Thats all I am trying to tell you. Castro might hit .210....but they just rarely say anyone will improve, yet alone drastic improvements.

They have Jose Abreu hitting 12 HRs on the Southside. You pay a 26 year old $60 mill to hit 12 HRs....I think he should hit more....but the point being they usually predict low.

OK, but it adds to the fact that everything they do is conservative. I cant imagine Abreu only gets 250 AB's either,

he's inherited the "one foot in the club" mentality from his mentor and ex-landlord: alfonso soriano. idk if it'll ever leave him, but if it does i reckon theo will leave flaming delorean tracks in an attempt to trade him.

He is living with the cubs trainer. which is the other end of the rainbow from living with Soriano, where felix pie chose to reside.

Castro is going to be a star. He had the one terrible year that (cliche incoming) helps build character. I see him flirting with .300 again, but this time with a much healthier slugging percentage. And regarding defense...the tools are there. I believe the focus will come with maturity.

I see he & the Cubs making it to the NLCS, where he makes an error on a critical play & loses the game for them.

Good news.

As RPB said, you just don't hit like he did and then forget it or lose it.

The fact that he was willing to do a strength program in the offseason is a sign of maturity as well.
