Mack- they don't even LIKE McDonalds that much! my son doesn't eat fries! When they have special hot meal at school (chicken fingers!) my kid brings his own cream cheese and jelly sandwich from home.

A good way to introduce vegetables is to start with steamed veggies.

Veggies are easy to overcome. There has to be at least a few a kid will eat. We ate a shit load of Broccoli and cauliflower in our house. Not much else.

my son is like you. if you force him to eat something he will gag and barf all over the place.

If you limit their choices and then allow them to be hungry, the behavior will eventually change.

Little Crest eats what is given to him now. He is then allowed a small bowl of cereal a couple of days a week after dinner.

I’m not a parent, but I think this is the key. It’s like my aversion to hunting and meat/fish/poultry that resembles its former self. Leave me in the wild for a few days and I’m jumping out of a tree with a spear Rambo-style to slay a wild animal. But I’m serious Hatchetman when I say address that immediately. It sucked having to deal with all that.

Nope, not close.
You would think, but all that protein from the PB and whole milk must have done me right. I was 5’6” my sophomore year in HS and grew 6” (hey hey!) in the next year. My dad was 5’6” and my mom was 5’4” so who knows where that came from.

Anyway we have to make them a separate dinner for them every night. Even then they pick at it like birds, but woooaaahh, they are interested in DESSERT!

Anyway, is there ANYONE else out there that has to deal with this? When I was a kid, I was raised pretty much by my Polish grandparents, which meant I had to eat every goddam thing on the plate...liver, mushy brussel sprouts, canned peas, saurkraut. you name it, I ate it!

You need to nip that in the bud.

Douchebag is on the mark here. My mom raised me right in every single way, except that I was an extremely picky eater and would gag if forced to eat certain foods. My dad told her to lay off and don't make me eat it. So I was the weirdo who ate PB&J sandwiches at Thanksgiving and such. Cereal, PB&J, pasta, potatoes, french bread pizza and milk were the staples of my diet through college. Couldn't do Boy Scouts or trips away from home as a kid because I was deathly afraid of being forced to eat things I didn't like. Sucks having to learn to eat properly as an adult but I did just that. I'm cool with pretty much all fruits and vegetables and certain meats, but I still resist eating meat, fish or poultry that in any way resembles its former self - so no ribs, turkey meat carved from the bird, things like that. My buddy made chili once and I found out it was from the deer he shot earlier in the year, so I wanted nothing to do with it. Some things I just can't get past.

I've got a brother-in-law that is exactly the same way. He won't eat anything that resembles the actual animal it came from.

Your advice always sucks.

Make the kids eat what are you eating (within reason), or they go hungry.

Thought I had a thread on this, but not only does my sister coddle the niece and nephew, the nephew is never hungry and then every night when everyone is going to bed, he gets hungry and she starts making him Mac and cheese, etc. cereal.

I asked her if at anytime in life, she can remember me or any of my sisters being made any food after 6 PM. My mom made dinner and if you didnt like it, tough shit starve to death!

She thinks my nephew doesnt eat enough food and it is stunting his growth (he is one of the taller kids in his class!) so she gets him those special chocolate organic protein shakes by the case, because he drinks those! lol

Now my favorite part!

His Birth is this weekend and she invites me to go out to dinner with them? I asked where? he doesnt like anything....she says RON OF JAPAN he like that!!! He's 8 and he will eat at RON OF JAPAN or TEPPENYAKI!

Told her she is heading for a crash with this kid. Given Wayyyyyyyy too much too early. trips, tickets, games, passes...and when these are his only 2 places he will go eat at 8....

That's impressive that she's giving birth this weekend, and will be prepared for a night out on the town that fast.

LOL

Classic!

last month suppossed to meet them somewhere but they stopped at Taco Bell. she says they are pulling up to pick up the food will be there in 2 seconds.

20 minutes later, still no show?

I call and ask where the f are they?

She says 'taco bell screwed up his order...they put meat in the taco' so they went back for a new taco....he likes just cheese in a shell while being driven to his next destination and the video screen is playing his favorite cartoon for the unbearable 5-10 minutes of transportation time.

...but, I dont have kids, so i dont know

My kids do, mostly. I try to make things I know they will eat though. If we are having something I know they don't like I have a second option. If I make Brussel sprouts I have another vegetable I know they will eat, but always put and keep the Brussel sprouts on their plate. If we have spicy turkey burgers I make theirs plain.

If we have something they don't like at all, like beef stew, they eat what they can, then it goes in the fridge. When they get hungry enough they will eat some more. If they can't stand it after that then they get snacks or something like lunchmeat, nuts, and fruit.

We have stuff like mac and cheese with meat loaf or sausage and a vegetable. They get a small amount of mac and cheese, if they want more they have to eat most of the other stuff first.

I wasn't allowed to eat what was not presented to me, nor leave what I had taken. When I started post-school practices that caused me to miss the prescribed 5:30 dinner time, I was allowed to fry up a burger patty on white bread, (after I had started the washer load with my practice clothes in it).

With Eastern-bloc-immigrant grandparents, we ate some things others found unusual (borscht, Limburger cheese, gizzards, etc.). My wife has found that she can prepare items, especially vegetables that she did not savor as a child, in a different manner than her Mom did, and actually like most of them. My children have eaten what we prepared with few exceptions, and have a palate expanded beyond mine. They even look forward to my beef tongue sandwiches! Despite growing up in the Fruit Belt, I prefer not to eat most fruits fresh picked.?

Like most things with raising children, the rare exception can become the constant obsession rather quickly.
