Short answer? I don't want to.

But if we're talking about making the world a better place, I don't think it can realistically start with Scorehead or you or me. It has to start from the top. We're all taking our cues with regard to consumerism and accumulation from those above us. It's a philosophy that needs to be changed. That's why I find Sam Zell far more objectionable than Scorehead, who I simply find misguided.

It realistically starts with self awareness, followed by action.

You can choose to live your life pointing the finger at the top, I'll choose to take best advantge of what I've been given.

And btw, SH said he was a 5th generation wealth sharer. He may be ignorant, but he had money long before the present culture did.

one minutes it's hard work = wealth

now you're saying they're "morally better" ? who ever said or implied that ?

Then why do you expect other to? It will always impact us and probably the most. Change in philosophy will not happen just because you take money away from a small portion of people.

Don't you think there's an implication in there that the rich are somehow morally superior? They worked harder. Work is good. You're poor, you're lazy, right?

The whole idea that the wealthy are superior is anti-American at its very core. This is an idea that began to be embraced some time in the Reagan administration. Aided by fictional welfare queens and other boogiemen. It's really nothing more than an attack on the workingman to the benefit of his corporate masters.

So we are really getting on Scorehead for providing too much for his kids? Seriously?

It's not about taking money away. It's about establishing different values. Do you really think "I want this! I want that!" is good values? Of course, I sound hypocritical. I grew up in the same place and in relatively the same time as you did. I can't say I'm immune to the desire to accumulate that has been instilled in me by my culture anymore than anyone else is.

But I understand where I fit, Spaulding. For some reason you seem to identify with the very wealthy more than the homeless. My guess is that very few of us at CSFMB are more than 20 missed paychecks away from the street.

We have to make the world a better place together, Darkside. I'm not a saint. There are people here far more moral than I am, no doubt. I don't even look at it as "evil". Is a lion that eats his cubs "evil"? Man just follows his nature. Although he should be smarter enough to know better.

i understand what youre saying, you make it clear. with those inequality statistics out, we DO need to think about where we want to be as a society. do you want a few in power with the rest scrambling to survive, because "thats the way mother nature is".. or do you want to use the human mind god gave you to have a better life? (which is, gasp, also mother natures way).

I'm not vilifying anyone. But it's certainly fair to ask, "Hey, we currently do things this way. Is there a better way we could do it?" When someone answers that question reflexively by thinking only about themselves, well, it's up to you to decide whether that makes them a villains.

That's not right, Seacrest. . I don't have any answers. But I can see the way the deck is stacked. And yeah, you're right, I'm not going to live the life of a discalced friar just to prove a point.

Man doesn't have to follow his nature. Unlike other animals, he can reason.

Do you think we share the world's resources in the fairest, most efficient way possible? I'm not vilifying you because you have a house and someone else doesn't. But if your reflex is to answer that question with something akin to "Fuck you, I worked hard, Go get yours." you just might be a villain.
