Maybe you missed season 1, on the History channel, but this is an awesome show. Not a historical account but a series. Picture a much cooler game of thrones, with less sex (they show as much as history channel will allow), but thy brutality when needed is what makes the show. The fights, strategy and basic pillaging in about as correct of a setting as you can make , is just one of the better shows on TV. Its not like Game of Thrones where everyone has a 12 minute speech....and I get to see one boob and 3 seconds of a dragon burning someone, this show is filled with action.

It is kinda based in real history. Ragnar Lothbrook was a real person. He was the first one to start raiding England.

Most of it is based on real history, but it is not a 3rd part narrated special, in the documentary style, it is a full story.

A guy I work with views himself as a direct descendant of the vikings and loves telling me what is correct and what isnt.

Yeah a lot is accurate. The Loki character is how crazy people where viewed then,touched by the gods and basically do what they want.
The only thing that was kinda a-historical was how the Jarl acted towards his underlings. In reality would not have lasted as long as he did. Plus,brothers do not turn on each other. If they do it is basically a challenge to fight to death. The battle scenes are close to how they where. Shield wall=life once it is broken you where basically screwed.
