After hearing and seeing this guy, was there any doubt he was gay?

I would think just any guest would be allowed to declare Mike North gay?

Younger folks don't have the hang-ups about these things exhibited by previous generations.

Denver could use an "edge rusher" like Mike Sam. MIssing Von Miller didn't help but they couldn't contain Russell Wilson Athletic Gear at all.

A notable book-end for Peyton's legacy as everybody's All-American that his team pops the NFL's gay cherry? Seeing as he has little chance of winning another Super Bowl.

You guys can all play the "It's no big deal" game and in our work environments it isn't, but I bet homophobia runs rampant in those NFL locker rooms. I guess it's a little different when your asked to shower with the guy. I'm willing to guess he gets no looks come the NFL Draft and then their will be a big story and outrage.

I hear people this crap about "How can you shower with a gay guy?"

I'm always confused when I hear this. So pro teams really have one big shower room with no dividers? Just a bunch of shower heads where 20 guys are in there together? Really? These NFL teams can certainly afford to upgrade the shower room. Put up some plastic walls.

Gay or not. I don't want to be naked with a bunch of other guys. I'd want privacy for christ's sake. Hell, we had shower dividers in my high school locker room

His father is an idiot and an asshole. There is no way you could have been around him for more than 10 mins without suspecting he was gay. Regardless of that he is your son and you should support him publicly even if you still need time to come to grips with it.

It says he doesn't really hang around his parents, seems kind of strange if it is both. Sometimes you see one or the other but usually not both.

It's because they've known he was gay and didn't approve of it.

Yeah it's not good, he came out and said his parents were ok with it and then now you get this.

Michael Sam Sr. told The New York Times that he received the news last Tuesday when his son wrote in a text: "Dad, I'm gay."Sam's father took the news hard.

He said he was eating at a Denny's restaurant but had to leave after receiving the text."I couldn't eat no more, so I went to Applebee's to have drinks," Sam Sr. told the newspaper. "I don't want my grandkids raised in that kind of environment."

Sam Sr., who described himself as "old-school," told the newspaper the idea of a gay player in the NFL bothers him, even when that person could be his own son.He told the newspaper that late Hall of Famer Deacon Jones, the leader of the Rams' Fearsome Foursome who is credited with terming the word sack, "is turning over in his grave."

He told the newspaper, however, that he loves his son and hopes he makes it into the NFL."As a black man, we have so many hurdles to cross. This is just one he has to cross," Sam Sr. told The Times.

He told his father that he was gay via text? That's weak sauce. Wow.

I'm kind of surprised but encouraged there hasn't been backlash against homosexuals anywhere after the speed at which things have progressed socially over the last 1-2 years

Am I wrong about this, or did Terry seem to be twisting himself into knots attempting to justify some way this kid might not make an NFL roster? I have no idea what kind of NFL player he'll be, if someone will try to covert him to linebacker or what, but he will for sure make a roster and play of special teams at the very least.

I don't think anything is for sure, I have seen a few 3rd or 4th round picks drafted in Green Bay that have never made the field. The guy size wise is a real tweener and it was already a question mark if he can make the jump to outside linebacker in a 3-4 in the NFL.

Oh, I don't know if he'll have any kind of career, but he's going to make a team after he's drafted.

I'd have to say his son is an idiot for telling his father something like that in a text message. That is something you do face to face, or at the very least on the phone.

I agree you support your son 100%, but still...the kid should not have done this in a text.

Those of us who aren't parents I guess can't say that....

I don't think the details matter. There are certain things you just should not text/email for regardless of what the relationship is or what the circumstances are. Would his Dad text him to say that his mother had just died? I would hope not and if he did, the Dad would be 100% in the wrong.

The details we know is that the Dad got a text from his son while eating dinner. Thats pretty heavy stuff. I can fault the Dad for not supporting his son, but I cannot fault him for being upset or hurt at the way it went down.

When I proposed, I wrote a note that said "Will you marry me? Please circle one; 'yes' 'no' 'maybe' "
