thats scary enough as it is, but there is no way that proves everything they use. they could be injecting depleted uranium into the ground and wouldnt have to tell anyone about it.

ill put it this way... IF depleted uranium made the process work, do you think the big oil corporations wouldn't cover up its use?

no youre wrong. the legal consequences would not outweigh the benefits, so EVERY corporation would cover it up. That is how corporations work, there is no moral obligation.

A few years ago you could have said the same thing about Happy Valley.

A lot of them are making $2k a week.

Companies do not have to disclose what chemicals they use.

North Dakota passed a law that essentially states the fracking is "safe."

The Aquifers should be the biggest concern....and once the oil is gone, the companies will be as well.

If you like your chemicals in your water, you can keep them!

3 months later.

I apologize if people thought they were going to be drinking chemicals and now can not based on things I said.

Did you bother to read the details of the findings?

I'm not sure how anyone with half a brain doesn't think that this would result in water contamination.

i did it was one of those articles that says its causing pollution but then lists the stats that clearly show the case numbers are relatively low and goes on explaining how its a problem in nearly every case.

Just checking.

Not enough detail in this article and it seems to be from a mixture of the actual "journalists" not going deep enough and the states involved not giving/not having the depth of information to provide. Why did some water wells get complaints, some get contaminated and most didn't?

I would like to see:
-Chemicals used.
-Distance from water to fracking wells
-Fracking techniques and equipment used.
-Age of fracking wells
-Companies involved.

Transparency seems and/or journalistic laziness seem to be culprits here

i would imagine its a bit like the weather... minerals in the ground form random rock formations, and some areas will leech more then others. no real way to tell what will happen either, unless you decide to only frack where there is a significant clay layer below the water table

i found it interesting too how it appears, by the data in the article, that far more complaints of contamination were from wells that have been proven to be not done by fracking. who knows if the numbers are accurate, but it sure doesn't seem as dire situation as the tree lovers are sayin

one of the very worst things happening in the country today.

Going to lead to major issues in coming years. The damage might be so bad, cant be reversed.

I am far from being the treehugger, but this is terrible.

Fracking fallout?

http://gma.yahoo.com/residents-baffled- ... ories.html

Quote:
If you hear a bang in the night in Oklahoma, it's probably not a monster, but could something worse -- an earthquake.

Across the south central state, 20 earthquakes were reported to The United States Geological Survey on Saturday alone. One of those quakes in the Edmond area had a magnitude of 3.5.

But residents are puzzled as to why the quakes are occurring so frequently and making such alarmingly loud noises.

"Felt like bombs going off. It's just a huge loud noise and then it's like a reverb from that boom that just shakes the entire house," Logan County resident Nancy York told ABC News affiliate KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City.

"If I'm experiencing eight of these in one day, then when does it erupt and become absolutely horrible that takes my house down?" York asked.

Similar booms have been heard across other states including Indiana, South Carolina, Ohio and Rhode Island in the last month. All of these regions are active areas on the USGS seismic hazard map.

Seismologist Austin Holland with the Oklahoma Geological Survey said that the unexplained noises are a result of sound waves emitting deep from within the earth before erupting. Residents might not know it's an earthquake because the shaking may be too slight to detect.

"When you're on top of a small earthquake it generates a boom. It's kind of similar to an explosion," Holland said. "I know these booms have been reported in other places and they couldn't figure out what was going on."

Oklahoma has seen a steep rise in the frequency of earthquakes in the area, according to a joint statement by both USGS and OGS. Residents have experienced more than 200 measuring at least a magnitude 3.0 since the beginning of 2009.

Wisconsin also experienced these loud booms last year. No (or not much) fracking there, but Wisco supplies a lot sand and other resources for the fracking industry:

there is no bad jobs. the only thing that would make fracking worse is if they paid higher wages. really, they should just pay min wage so we can have cheap gas.
