You're another guy I thought would enjoy Dan's unchecked descent into nonsensical phraseology. Dan ruining the Score makes the Score more interesting.

It's certainly possible. The more outrageous he gets, the more I post about his show, for whatever that's worth.

He combined the related but not synonymous terms locus of control and sell efficacy

I'm convinced he took the term from Jason's 4th grade calculus book.

It is indeed a thing, but he could be misapplying it ... though I don't know as I still don't know the context in which he said it.

Locus and Efficacy are both words often used in psychology, but I've never really heard them used together in a common phrase. If I had to guess, it would refer to the focus of one's ability, but it seems like a fancy way of saying nothing.

Locus of control is one of the four dimensions of core self-evaluations – one's fundamental appraisal of oneself – along with neuroticism, self-efficacy, and self-esteem. [2] In a follow-up study, Judge et al. (2002) argued the concepts of locus of control, neuroticism, self-efficacy and self-esteem measured the same, single factor.[3] The concept of core self-evaluations was first examined by Judge, Locke, and Durham (1997), and since has proven to have the ability to predict several work outcomes, specifically, job satisfaction and job performance. [4]

You guys think he does this in front of his smart friends and "peers"? They have to think he is a total assbag. Similar to when Sir says he almost kicked somebody's ass in the elevator.

This much analysis is sucking the fun out of it.

The point was, sensical or not, nobody talks this way. It's fucking sports radio. I laughed at Harry today for Christ's sake.

ADVANCED. MESSAGEBOARDING. METRICS.

But you're right ... they had a fun show, turned it into serious radio way too often, and now it's more pedantic and at the same time perfunctory rather than playful or, dare I say, entertaining ... except once in a great while when we all run to the board to post "hey wasn't that great, just like old times, hooray, woo Cubbies" and what have you.

I dunno. It was never really a fun show. It was always this, maybe not in the quantity it is now but it was always there.

No, your memory is poor. It was considerably lighter and more fun ... you don't have to take my word for it ... just consider the possibility (or lack thereof) of how the blazing fuck it would have stayed on the air for 2 decades being this pile of shit it's turned into ... it clearly wouldn't have.

His funnies always have come at the expense of someone or something else it's just never been this distasteful. He has always been "smart" and the thinking fan. Everyone is always beneath him. They are not new ways of Bernestein operating. It just seems to have intensified.

No need to dream, cupcake! You can ride my painted pony any time! Let the spinnin' wheel turn! Whoa! Matter of fact, Triple D is rollin' out soon and we're gonna be in Naperville for a special on viewer recommendations. J.K. in Schaumburg says we've really gotta try his favorite joint, Cooper's Hawk. I'll see you next time- in Downers, Darien, or your dreams!

Ironically, the Penn State scandal did not destroy Penn State, but it did destroy the B&B show. Well played college football!

Off to the side.

In fairness, there were commercials a while back by ESPN calling it that and Ive heard non score personalities do it.

i'm not exactly sure when it started but there is seemingly a pre penn st dan and a post penn st dan. i really didn't see a point to Dan's championing of this story. It almost seemed like he felt he was the leader of this crusade when really he was a thousand miles from it. This gave him the courage to attempt to muster the rohirrim on stories like jason collins and steve alford. and it just changed his dynamic. terry became more disinterested, and Dan tries to be smarter than everyone. its funnier but it is ruining their show.

I assume these types of stands and Getting the comments removed from his column are all a play to become a nationally known name.

Yeah. Dan is not a dumb guy and probably sees some sort of writing on the wall for sports talk and the pay. Keep in mind his sister is in media type shit and probably tells him a lot of stuff about reinvention and staying wanted. His Dad is also a very smart guy.

It wouldn't surprise me if this is a purposeful change on his part to become more seen nationally as a serious talker able to cross talk radio genres.

I think the easy answer is the best. Dan got bored with the formula that worked. There is a reason why they are the longest running show in Chicago sports. Formats and shows change a lot and it keeps things fresh. Penn State gave him a chance to feel like he was doing something more than an amusing radio show. I think he has refocused and some of the magic of the show has returned but now it seems like more of a hybrid where sometimes it is super serious with real implications and other times it is the light hearted fun show.

I can't even blame Bernstein. He was and still is great at what he does. He simply wants bigger challenges.

i certainly think he's envious of north. but north has that chicago "da bears" blue collar feel to him which is why i think he is "successful" nationally. Dan has none of that.

I could see a show with he and Al Sharpton. Two hypocritical chickenshits on the never ending quest for reinvention and demagoguery.
