HUGE leap from what we are talking here.

Legal and documented immigration is fine, especially when the process allows in many entrants with needed skills and not just simple slave labor. And it wasn't just xenophobia that destroyed Japan.

No, Rick, you only see the world through the prism of laws that one human being created to give himself an advantage over another human being.
We live in a world with different countries. Until that is no longer true, I will continue to think that a country has a right to choose who it lets into the country. I doubt you would even want a no borders worldwide policy.
Joe Orr Road Rod wrote:
I', not sure why you can never get beyond that. Immigration is immigration. The "legality" of it is arbitrary. But hell, you're here, you went to Purdue, you've got a good job. Shut the fuckin' door!
The legality is not arbitrary any more than any other rule or regulation in any modern society is arbitrary.

Are you saying that countries don't have a right to control who can or can't enter the country and that anyone in the world should be free to go and live wherever they want?

The only difference between legal and illegal immigration is that some guy is deciding who gets in.

You're not really blaming her bad driving on what you believe to be her immigration status?

If illegal immigrants are going to stay here, they should have to follow the same ridiculous set of laws and regulations as the rest of us.

Change it to whatever word you want for the killing of another human being.

There are plenty of unlicensed driver born right here in the good ol' U.S. of A. We don't even know if she was illegal. We're just assuming that.

That's not true. They need a license and insurance as much as you do. If she gets caught and she's illegal, the consequences are going to be, at a minimum, as bad as they would be for you or me, and probably much more dire.

Yes. We are.

Because she could barely speak english, had no license and no insurance and fled the scene of a crime that would be at most a ticket for a legal person. I dont know too many citizens that fit that description. Do you?

Absolutely false. See Conns post on page 1.

I personally know a few guys who have gotten 4 duis. Like I said, they dont mind becuase suspending their driving privileges doesnt affect them.

I agree that it's a pretty fair assumption. And yeah, I know at least a few guys that would run from the scene of an accident for various reasons.

If only there was a way to not have a strong suspicion that someone who is willing to get out of a car after an accident, say "no police", and then run away was here illegally.

Then again, there isn't anything bad about illegal immigration!

First, I don't believe conns' post. Second, we can post all kinds of anecdotes. I know a guy who was caught for speeding and was deported. DUI laws have gotten increasing tougher and tougher. I don't believe anyone can have four DUI convictions without doing jail time right now 2014.

The penalty for driving without insurance is you have to get SR-22 insurance. They dont get it, and then they keep driving til they're caught again.

By the time they get to jail time, a lot of people may have been hurt

I dont know why you would not believe Conns

the administrative penalties are where they get you (i.e. the ones the illegals don't care about)
jail time wise, it's not a whole lot

But that has nothing to do with being illegal. In fact, most illegals I know want to be licensed and have insurance. They don't want to play Russian roulette with the life they've built in this country. And all kinds of citizens drive uninsured.

Because I know cops who have taken in Mexicans without licenses.

Depends on the state. My buddy's dad in TX is doing 7 years right now for his 4th DUI.

We need to make the process of getting here legally a whole lot easier. Should take less than a day. If you're not a felon in your previous country, you're in.
