Isn't having insurance and being licensed also an "arbitrary law"? Are you also against those things?

It has everything to do with being illegal. They dont have identities to protect or care about, so they dont. I dont know your personal stories but for every well meaning immigrant doing it the right way, I know one who knowingly games the system. Maybe I just have met a bad bunch.

Well, use that big Purdue brain of yours for a minute and ask yourself, "Hmmmmm, are those laws designed to give someone an advantage over someone else or are they truly for the benefit of society?"

Having an immigration policy is for the benefit of society too. That is why every country has one. The ironic thing is that in many ways our immigration policy is much less strict than many of the countries these illegal immigrants are coming from.

I realize this is personal for you right now. But I think you're really painting broadly here, as if most Mexicans come here to commit crimes, game the system, and drive recklessly. The reality is they're in a very precarious position and the majority of them just want to keep a low profile to raise their families and be left alone.

You are painting as broadly as I am, except the other way

Anyway, it doesnt matter how many of them are criminals. We just have to remove the ones that are.

Name an industrialized country that has this or anything close to it.

This is always the worst argument. We don't want to do them because they pay so poorly because of the huge amount of illegal immigrants. [/b][/b] These are scary times in the future for a lot of people. Permanent unemployment seems to be on the horizon for many and yet we still let a system operate which allows for American citizens to be undercut by those who shouldn't be allowed here and we keep out those who are willing to try and come here and do it the right way.

One of the worst bits of political idiocy has been how the Democrats have somehow made being against illegal immigration a bad thing. 100% of American citizens should be against illegal immigration. It shouldn't even be an argument. It only hurts our country. It does not help it at all and it creates situations like Bryan's family has to now deal with. It's also used as a tool of the rich to keep the rest of the country down. That's ultimately what keeps true logical reform from happening, along with the politicization of an issue that realistically shouldn't be politicized.

Couldn't agree more.

This is ridiculous. Illegal immigrants should be in the process of getting legal or they're gone. That shouldnt even be an argument.

JORR,
What laws do you think are valid and worth enforcing?First non racial specific immigration was passed in 1891

+1 to your first part of your post, I don't know if you are the bad guy or not I haven't read the entire thread. I wouldn't think you are the bad guy though, at least this time.

Japan's larger issue is birth rates due to high cost of living for one factor.

And JORR, how am I even painting broadly?

Im just giving you personal experiences. Same as you. I know a lot of "good" illegal immigrants too. They are fine. The ones that commit crimes or dont follow our laws need to go and that has nothing to do with the previously mentioned "good" ones

As Rick said, if you have a problem with illegal immigration, youre painted as heartless and often times racist.

Can we all at least agree that a driver who plows into somebody else and then leaves the scene of that accident is a huge douchebag?

I personally don't feel like illegal immigrants should be here, if they want to become a US citizen then I am perfectly fine with them coming on board, but if not I am sorry.

Don't worry fellas I am sure they will fix this all with a giant comprehensive new law that will answer all of our questions. You know, like they did in 1986 or whenever.

I have my views, but I'd prefer to answer your question by saying I think the vast majority of people are legally selective. So-called conservatives more than anyone else.
