Again, I'm not chiding you, but that seems inconsistent with a lot of your other thoughts. I mean, do you think these people don't want to be citizens? Think if your life was so shitty that you packed up a couple shirts and a few pesos to have some guy you're not sure you can trust and who you are paying a lifetime of savings to take you across a river and/or drive you without food or water in the back of a truck and then let you out in some foreign land where maybe you can work for a slave wage chasing chickens for Smithfield or something, and that's a whole lot better than where you came from. I just find such harsh judgment of people uncharacteristic coming from you.

I dont judge that person harshly at all. Im all for that.

The ones who commit crimes are a separate issue, arent they?

I even go as far to say if you're in the process of becoming legal, that's fine.

Not legal + not trying to get legal + commits felonies = Deportation

We as a country have invited illegal immigration across our southern borders since at least 1980. We have applied a band aid, or little to no aid , in keeping out folks from Mexico most specifically.

They have done jobs that many other Americans have no interest in doing. Shit, there are people here that have been unemployed that wouldn't take these types of jobs under any circumstances.

Now after years of tacit approval with a struggling economy of our own, we want to break up families and ship the parents of kids back to where they came.

It's morally unconscionable for our government to do this.
Thank you for the history lesson, professor.

But other than that....what the hell are you babbling about? I'm not talking about raiding Illegal's homes and taking them out by the busload. RPB's point was-- and I agree with him-- that if an illegal immigrant commits a felony, he should be deported. Regardless of if he goes to prison or is shipped back to whatever country he came from, that family is going to be broken up, correct? And that is a consequence of his own action, not the Governments.

Is it "morally unconscionable" for our government to lock up a serial killer because it would break up the family? Please.

I don't know if there are any legitimate plans to do this. It sounds really sad though so I understand why you'd include it.

That wasn't RPB's original point.

And deporting an illegal immigrant that was allowed to come here by our government is unfair based upon the consequences that you and I would suffer for the same offense.

Leaving the scene of a personal property accident would be plea bargained to a misdemeanor for you and I. And if we were convicted of a felony, chances are we might not even have to server real jail time.

Are you aware that in many cases immigrants are jailed, and then sent back after their sentence is served?

Id assume he had problems with the law.

But since he speaks english, Id really have nothing to go on beyond that.

That's the real argument here. I guess my assumption that she was an illegal immigrant because she couldnt speak english and left the scene of a minor crime is rubbing people the wrong way.

Because more people have been deported in the last five years than any other time in history. Some of whom are picked up in traffic stops and shipped out of the country without ever seeing their families again. It's sad, and very true.

And I personally believe that our country has turned a blind eye to much of what has gone on near out southern borders.

That wasn't RPB's original point.

Yes, it was. Hence the thread title and every post Ive made since then explaining Im only talking about those that commit crimes.

Pick a lane. In your first paragraph, you seem upset they are enforcing the rules. In the second paragraph, you seem upset they didn't enforce the rules well enough.

The government allows people in through porous borders.

ICE sends people back when the local cops pick them up.

I'm not seeing consistency from the government. Are you?

Is it really racial injustice to think that people who cant speak English are probably immigrants and then when they flee the scene of a crime that they have legal issues?

Fleeing the scene of an accident is a pretty big deal. I cant understand why anyone would do that unless they were going to be caught for something else.

I wonder what the posts in this thread would be like if RPB's daughter was in the car and got hurt.

I would think the tone of this thread might be just a bit different.

I don't think the government allows people in. They just aren't good enough to stop all illegal immigration. Are you arguing that immigration enforcement shouldn't be done after someone is here for 24 hours or more?

It doesnt matter. I generalized. I think its a reasonable assumption but others took offense.

Ive admitted generalizing and said I understand how it could rub people the wrong way.

There isnt much we can do beyond that regarding me and my specific situation

So my part is done here. Ill let the immigration experts debate from here on out.

I'm simply disagreeing with the thought that our government does all it can to stop illegal immigration.

Don't you think starting a Douchebag thread about CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS is kind of Northian/Limbaughian? Is that the territory you want to camp out in? If so, fine, own it. Don't be surprised when you might ruffle a few feathers.

I literally just posted that I understand Ive ruffled feathers. (rubbed the wrong way)

No, I dont think its Northian Limabughian

Im talking about illegal aliens who commit crimes (beyond the crime of being here illegally)

I believe the Norths of the world would say "They're ALL criminals"

Ive posted numerous times that Im not in that camp

No.

Its never ok to flee the scene of an accident.

Instead, we're assuming this person is A) an illegal and b) did what they did because they are an illegal.

edit:

I also want to state I do not share Nas' views in this thread. Though I disagree with RPB's thought process and his initial outburst based on assumptions... Nas can and does turn many things into racism that clearly aren't.

Is assuming that a person who does not speak English most likely crime would be immigration status related an evil thing?

Why do you have to assume anything based on a person's ability to speak English eloquently?

Well, were at the point, were this person has fled the scene of an accident because the other driver wouldnt agree to "no police"

fair assumption they have some legal issue, right?

Still not seeing where an accent or the ability to speak English well gets factored in.

Ok so we agree there is likely a legal issue?

So, now were speculating on what the issue is.

The fact that she couldnt speak english led me to believe her most likely crime would be immigration related.

Maybe its an unfair assumption. I could have assumed she was a tax cheat or a serial killer.

If you think assuming a person who, doesnt speak english and runs from the cops, is likely an immigrant makes me a bad person, then so be it.

that's not even in the team picture of reasons why you're a bad person.

how do you go about "alienating" people's human rights? Is Israel selling their human rights? or making their human rights feel unwelcome?

I made some edits above - maybe too slowly.

And the person had some reason to bounce - clearly. No reason would be a good one... and while I can innocently take some guesses...I won't assume I'm right on any of them.

You didn't douchebag the woman who hit your daughter's mother's car.

You douchebagged a large group of people completely unrelated to what happened. And you assume the woman did what she did because she MIGHT be a part of that group.

But the large group of people are all criminals.

Not because they're here, because they broke the law.
