The thing that Joe and other's have described is Rust actually aware that his world is nothing more than TV and that he exists as some kind of entity outside of Matthew Mc Conaghey the actor. It just happens that MM is currently embodying Rust. That, of course, could be one giant reference to EdTV but that would be a truly stupid movie to reference.

OK. I don't think it goes that far but I do think the writer intends for the audience to consider Rust's flat circle philosophy and how it relates to the viewing of the show itself.

But, I don't think it is intended that Rust is aware in the way that JORR is describing although it's a pretty interesting take.

Agreed. He believes that we keep living the same life, almost like that episode of The Twilight Zone with the guy on death row.

Fuck, with all the build up and theorizing and whatnot I just know the season finale is going to be a goddamned garbage fire of terrible. :(

Not sure about that. If we're going with the flat circle theory, then we are going to keep doing, and seeing, the same thing over and over again. That means all 3 of the next episodes will be fucking great. I think.

Ahhhh, I really have no idea. The more I watch the show and read about it the more "clues" I think I see. Every scene in the police station has a yellow tint to it, Marty's house has a shit ton of yellow in it, the fucked up daughter has blonde hair. It's like the show wants you to draw these connections but at the same time I feel like it's going to pull the rug out from under me because those connections seem too on the nose for a show like this.

Lastly, the dude's name is fucking "Rust Cohle". He may as well be called Metaphor McSubtext.

The big advantage this show has is that this seasons was written as a single self-contained set of episodes. They're not perpetually playing keep away with the viewer each week and season like Lost and the X-Files, and that difference alone is a big reason to suspect the ending won't be disappointing.

I was just fuckin around. I'm not well read enough to even try to predict this shit. I just read the recaps from Really Smart Guys and enjoyin the ride. What a show. This season is up there with Season 5 of BB, Season 4 of the Wire, and Season 6 of the sopranos as the best seasons on tv I've seen.

I never saw lost or x files...can't comment. I will say this show is outstanding , its early to declare it as good as breaking bad but I wouldn't be surprised to see it finish up that amazing .

I don't believe the yellow king has been introduced yet, the only real character development has been of marty n rusty. I also have changed my mind about Rusty, instead of thinking he was pursuing the case solo..I now believe he is still undercover .

My thoughts exactly. This season will kick ass. Like season 1 Dexter did. Further seasons of TD who knows or cares.

Him being undercover would be an interesting theory but I doubt that would be possible after they had their
pictures in the paper and the story was plastered all over the news. Then again, could explain his total burnout
look instead of the clean cut guy.

I like the theory that he is even deeper undercover, like the FBI or something, investigating everything from police/elected official corruption to drugs and kidnappings

good call Keyser

I see the show as this era's Blair Witch Project. You are never going to see that Yellow King

Another thing I noticed was atleast 2 times n possibly three ..they showed the - do you know who killed me- billboard ..one old n one present day, I read some opinions that believe the billboard is in reference to the political cover up of a murder in the Beaumont texas - Louisiana border town of the Page murder...the billboard has been up for 20 years and the police were paid off to cover up. the billboard is still currently up .

Louisiana is notorious for corruption and I could see the governor being involved . which would explain the need for the rust to infiltrate the firty pd.

The more i read, the more Errol seems like a prime suspect. It could be bullshit, but if you go back and watch the first three episodes they throw a lot of hints about him.

You could be onto something here:

http://i.imgur.com/bMMLNei.png Lawnmower man is played by Glenn Fleshler. AKA George Remus on Boardwalk Empire. He's slated to return in episodes 7 & 8. the character's name is Errol. http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0412731 ... flmg_act_3 Boom. Also, the picture of the spaghetti monster with the green ears is shown to the audience in episode 1 (remember what nic said about all the info you need being divulgedin ep 1). so you show the picture of the guy, show the character in episode 3, have cohle get pulled away from the actual murderer b/c hart is honking the horn all hot to trot to go after who they think the murderer really is, reggie ledoux. classic red herring moment, and now, the second cohle realizes they might have fucked up the case, where's the first place he goes after doing a little research? the school. see you in episodes 7 & 8, errol.

from: http://www.reddit.com/r/TrueDetective/c ... _all_life/

This makes sense. Kinda wish I wouldn't have read it, but you just never know with this program.

I will be sorely disappointed if this leads to the school custodian. Talk about setting a low bar for a writer

Fur sure. That Tuttle motherfucker has everything to do with the doings going on though. Also, with all this talk about "flat circles" and re-watching the tent revival scene from the third episode, I find the Bible quote on the backdrop behind the preacher quite peculiar: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight."

Do we have any idea what that opening scene in the pilot could be about yet? It's like two huddled guys walking through a field after seemingly lighting it on fire? I don't really follow all the reddit folks but Im assuming they have a theory in there somewhere.

Probably the least interesting episode of the 6 so far, but I understand why. They have to set up the final two episodes, and fill in some needed backstory about Rust/Marty. That last scene got me pretty excited for next week. I was hoping we'd get at least one 2012 Rust/Marty scene.

Like FF said, a lesser episode but still great TV. The scene in the insane asylum will probably give me nightmares for the next few days and yet it was such an innocuous scene.

The Tuttle scene was great. Fake smiles and pleasantries from Tuttle and Rust while each trying to measure each other.

As great as Rust is it's unfortunate he's a two pump chump.

So we can rule out the theory Marty and Rust had a fake break-up and were in cahoots the past 10 years, right? Can't wait for the next two episodes. I think all the setup has been done but who knows.

The next episode looks unbelievable. Pretty much looks like it's mostly 2012 Rust and Marty teaming back up. And Rust shows Marty something and Marty's reaction is just crushed. Thinking it's gotta be proof/evidence of Audrey getting messed with by this cult. Or something pretty close. Marty wouldn't react that way if it wasn't personal.

Ima be real fuckin' pissed if Marty is the killer.

And I'm just flinging some shit here but the preacher from episode three said the following to Marty "the face you wear is not your own" and Marty seemed intrigued when Rust told him about the cartel's penchant for face ripping torture. Also he has blonde hair, his daughter got that princess crown stuck in the tree, she shows signs of abuse, he went buck hunting, killed Reggie Ledoux before he could say anything, oh and he magically just happened to run into that prostitute from the sex farm.

He better not be and I'm still confident he isn't. The idiot couldn't even keep his 2nd affair secret for that long after biffing the 1st. It'd be such a lazy lame "twist"

That, and his personality seems to be the complete opposite of what you would think the Yellow King's would be.
