"the Polish victory lap"- the fuck is that about?

I'm not one to get outraged over fairly innocuous racial/ethnic humor. However, in an industry where everyone censors their figures of speech, I heard this description of Daytona on two national outlets.

I really don't care that it is a commonly used descriptive. There are plenty of common phrases I wouldn't expect to be heard on television. I would hope not to hear a reporter use a common phrase for negotiating a more favorable price on an item. I would hope not to hear a reporter use a common phrase for someone achieving lower middle class income and spending beyond his means.

"Cornball brother" sent people into an outrage and the reporter was appropriately suspended with his contract not being renewed.

It's really not a big deal to me but at least attempt to have equal treatment.

I don't think it's a derogatory term. It's named in honor of a Polish guy. Kulwicki?

Yes, Kulwicki did it and called it that himself. Still, it was interesting to hear Mike Joy pause after he started to describe it. I think he realized it's probably not a good idea.

But, it usually gets mentioned at least once a year.

Rob Parker , i believe , I don't think the "cornball brother" is what angered people ..it was everything before n after that. There is a pipe cart V shaped commonly. known as a polish Canon .

of course it is derogatory. It is not a Polish victory lap because he did it. It is called that because it is performed backwards. Again, not a big deal but don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.

It is the same argument as when black rappers re popularized use of an offensive term for African Americans.

Why the hell are you reading NASCAR reporters anyway?

If you are looking for ethnic sensitivity, I'm not sure the sport of Bristol, Tennessee is the place to go.

I heard it on the radio.

I will ban the mandated pre race prayers just to get back at them.

Don't miss pre-race or you could miss a glorious anthem rendition such as this -

I don't think you're correct, but I can understand why it probably shouldn't be used. Especially on a day when many casual viewers who don't know NASCAR history are tuning in.

I think you would have to be willfully ignorant not to believe I am correct.

If it was simply a stylistic thing popularized by a Pole there would be no reason for the term not to be used.

The reason not to use it is because, in spite of its actual origins, there are going to be those who hear it and take offense. Case in point.
