I call in when I can. My success level is reflected in the comments on this board.

And there's plenty of posters who are both a)smarter than me and b)have more time than me.

You can't start by ripping them a new one. But when you gain some trust, you can pretty much say what you want.

Christ Almighty .... now plate collisions are only, will only be, and in the first place were only about "proving something" and therefore implicitly not, for example, perhaps scoring a run and winning a PROFESSIONAL baseball game in a PROFESSIONAL league making untold billions of dollars.

Was his example occasionally representative of a plate collision? Sure. That in no way means it was the ONLY reason it ever occurred.

ah. I had tuned out for a second and thought that was your opinion. Now I see you meant it as his.

I found Dan's story about his son's hockey team struggling to a draw against a girl's team to be simply fascinating.

If that's not entertainment, I don't know what is. Wow.

Now, to get back to sticking my tongue on the bus bar of the electrical panel I'm working on.

Anyone else not buying Dan't story of running into the catcher? I played youth baseball for maybe 6 years. never came close to having a home plate collision. You'd be nuts to run into a guy loaded up with catcher's gear.

They were discussing the Bulls. Bernstein said something like "Of course they can play hard. They just need to realize they aren't going anywhere." Mac responds with "Finfer needs to show up to work everyday, and we know he isn't going anywhere!"

I played youth baseball many many years ago in the heady 80's when the idea of safety was putting your hand over your kids chest while slamming on the brakes because you almost rear ended a car picking up the cigarette you dropped and we never were allowed to hit a catcher... if you don't slide, you're out, even if there's no real play.

I'm buying it. Umped plenty of little league games and even with the rules clearly stating these things, you still get some near collisions.

that's what I mean. Catcher gets caught up the line, etc. Base runner trips over his/her shoelaces...

The other side of a slide rule at home has to be that a catcher can't set up up the line. You're gonna stand there waiting for a throw three feet in front of the plate, where the fuck is the runner supposed to go?

Today may be the first time I actually heard them build a straw man on the air. It happened fast, too.

Danny: Why do you think guys like Hawk like home plate collisions and beanballs? Do you think that they think the game was better when it was more common?

Terry: Yep. Yeah, I think they do.

They then spent the next 15 minutes arguing that home plate collisions and beanballs don't make the game better - even though no one argued that they do except the person they made up.

yeah, but this one was actually constructed on air, not just some nebulous "everyone's saying x" pulled out of nowhere.

I have sometimes the wait is too long. The last time I remember talking with them we were going back and forth about the best small guard to play the game. They said it was Allen Iverson. I called in to tell them about Isaiah Thomas and they told me that he wasn't the best player on those Detroit teams. I told them that Iverson was overrated and provided a list of reasons as to why I felt that way. The Iverson-Thomas debate is opinion. To suggest that Thomas was not the best player on Detroit is just plain stupid. I also called in one day to debate the merits of their Lebron is the best defensive player and the league crap and illustrated how he guarded Kendrick Perkins in the finals not Durant who happens to play the same position. I told them that Scottie Pippen was a better defender than Lebron James and stated that lockdown defenders don't guard Kendrick Perkins. I have never been shouted down and called an idiot when I call in maybe its because I don't call in that much.

If Ozzie Smith was a caller with those thoughts on home plate collisions he would of been called an idiot and hung up on.

I'm not an Unemployed Lawyer.

People pay when I pick up that phone during the day. I guess I could assign it being for the public good if I knew they would get to my call immediately.

1st Hatchetman...Danny can turn on a 90mph fastball.
B: Michael Sam is lucky to be invited as a free agent ...his combine sucked .Which sounds like what they said about the NFL's real 1st gay player Manti Te'o who was drafted.
