I tried Makers Mark long ago but did not give it much of a chance. I am a scotch guy. Is bourbon better now? I am being serious. I do not remember it being all that great. I enjoy a shot of Jack Daniels every once in a while but I know that is sour mash not bourbon. All this MM talk has me wanting to give it another try.

Fucking Binny's

Quote:
If you missed this story, here's what happened. Maker's Mark announced that they would lower the alcohol of their beloved bourbon from 90 to 84 proof. It took less than a week for public outrage to reach such a fervor that they doubled back on their decision, promising to stick with the original recipe. We don't mean to wax poetic, but this may be one of the biggest beverage missteps since New Coke. One that will leave its mark on the industry for generations.

That makes the low proof Maker's Mark an instant collector's item for whiskey enthusiasts.

The distillery is busy reclaiming cases from wholesalers, but we're holding our allocation for you. We want to offer you the chance to buy this bottle of history. Remember, it's a limited product, production had a life measured in hours instead of days or weeks. Once it's gone, it's gone for good.

Good for Binny's. Probably reel in quite a few suckers with this.

MM is nothing special. You need to try something good. Do a little bit of research. I don't know what is "good" nowadays. As soon as something gets recognized the price of it goes through the roof.

Black Maple Hill is a great small batch bourbon.

If you wanna do it right I would suggest blowing the paycheck, and waking up in Iowa with a hooker named Steffi.

"Nowadays" is the key here. I used to drink Pappy Van Winkle 15, but that shit went from $35 to $50 to $75, I don't even think you can buy it at that price anymore. Plus they switched distilleries so it isn't even the same shit. This stuff changes from year to year. I haven't researched it in a while. I know MM, it's fine. Not offensive in any way. I drink Weller's 107 which is good, but not amazing. It is cheap though for the quality. I like Scotch too. Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Macallan.

Binny's has 1.75L bottles of 84 proof Maker's Mark behind the service desk. When it's gone, it's gone.

They actually made some? It didn't seem like it had gotten that far.

How long does it take to add water to a bottle?

They had to print the labels too. It seemed to me like they were floating the idea and hadn't actually gone into diluted production yet. Apparently they had already added the water.

When the bourbon is aged in the barrels, it is usually around 120 or 130 proof.

I'm drinking some of the regular 90 proof stuff now. I'm not opening the 84 proof bottle.

One shot straight. Chugged it. Not bad. Flavorful. A little burn in throat back but really enjoyed the taste. Tried it on the rocks enjoyed this too. A little water after the shot seems to help the flavor come through a bit. Not bad at all.

If you like more of a burn in the throat, try Knob Creek.

I expected Catholic School students like yourself would have learned that in 3rd grade.

Based on your posts, I don't get the impression Catholic education is your expertise.

I went to Binny's today, and Maker's is the same price as Woodford. Woodford is going to win that battle 100 times out of 100. Nice knowing ya, Maker's.

Well booze does kill brain cells, so maybe if you drink enough of one the other may look better eventually.
