As a kid I saw this happen too many times in my neighborhood. Guys getting smacked/dragged/choked/stomped/forced to strip. I actually thought this was allowed until I was almost an adult. It's not a race issue either because the cops I saw doing it were black. Enough of these guys and gals abuse the power they already have. There is no reason to give them more.

The cops in that video are obviously roided up. But we're more worried about our ballplayers being juiced.

I wonder what would have happened if he just listened to what the cops asked of him.

5000 times to rollover? C'mon. Was that LAPD? 5-6 cops for that? Any good cop could have gotten him to listen without the hassle.

My guess is the guy was drunk. Nothing they did to him seemed to hurt him as much as it looked like it should. He was a small guy and he wasn't fighting back. They could have pinned him down and easily handcuffed him. Then you had the other cop come in and punch him in the head and face about 10 times while every other cop just stood around. I'm disappointed that none of the other people there said anything to them.

I know, I can't believe that nobody thought better of that. Mob mentality, I guess. Plus, this guy's going to need medical attention, and they are taking him out of what I presume is a hospital to, what, a police station? Tons of poor judgement by the cops. This guy was in no shape to run away. They basically had him "under police protection" by the time they were in the lobby.

If you open your mouth, you might get a beat down as well. At least, it was caught on camera.

You see this type of behavior a lot from police officers and officers that work in DOC. It is a gang mentality when they are working and even when they are off work. They generally hang together and they are always armed.

those same cops likely went home and beat off to pics of underage boys on the internet. they both should be fired. im tired of cops thinking they are supreme beings. of course their job is dangerous, that is what the job is! if you want to be completely safe then work at a daycare center wiping babies butts. my job is dangerous too, but i dont beat the shit out of a coworker when he does something stupid.

There is a reason this is common. I have old friends who became cops, as I'm sure most of us do. You can't talk the way these guys talk about people in the general public. This is why I think they always end up hanging out together and with their families. This is probably why their kids are always a little different, too.

I have some of those friends and family members as well. I know it's a dangerous job but they act like they live in another world.

Many cops in large cities do live in another world. The level of evil they are faced with each day must feel insurmountable more often than not.

Nas, what did you think about Obama's speech on black male youths this week? I found it refreshing to see him pull a Bill Cosby and ask folks not to fall into stereotypes. It was a change of pace from his normal course of blaming others for the societal problems.

He's given the "personal responsibility" speech a lot. In general I agree with his message. Problem a lot have is all he's done is talk. His policies have made the lives of many of these inner city kids harder. He's also being really disingenuous when he tries to compare his upbringing to theirs too. It's not the same.

I'm not condoning bad behavior by cops.

I hope you are understanding what they are forced to confront. With little or no help from society in general. It's the same type of approach we as a society may want to take with criminals as well. Generations of people confronted with almost insurmountable issues to conquer each day that are not of their own making.

Um, OK. I've lived in a big city my whole life. I've been around cops on and off duty my whole life. I thought I did but, at your behest, I'll try harder.

Thanks for sharing how compassionate you are TS.

That's the type of behavior we all should be condoning.

Is that answer better?

I dont think we can condone or excuse anything based on "the evils they face"

Its what they signed up for and there are many cops, most cops, that protect and serve responsibly without the need for this bullshit.

And yes, those guys are roided up

I would bet that no cop is fully prepared in training for what they are going to face on a daily basis.

So that makes it ok or understandable for them to hurt people and abuse their authority?

Its a crazy job. Its a hard job. But I think if we excuse misbehavior or abuse by some, its a slap in the face to those who do the job without.
