I know one of Ebert's pet peeves was during the in memoriam segment the applause that would go on like it was a popularity contest. He'll be glad to know it took his death for it to stop happening.

I noticed that too...seemed like it was going to be the usual with the first one (Gandolfini) but I didn't hear so much as a peep after that...

yeah. that was probably the best in memoriam i've seen in years. that's the way to do it. very respectful. and i didn't realize hal needham died! RIP.
