Per CSN:

Brandon Bollig has gone from solely a fighter/enforcer to a forward who’s adding more to his game. On Monday, the Chicago Blackhawks secured Bollig for a few more seasons.

[RELATED: A moment in Blackhawks time to savor]

Bollig and the Blackhawks agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension that will take him through the 2016-17 season. Bollig has become a consistent part of the Blackhawks’ fourth line with Marcus Kruger and Ben Smith.

Heard the figure was $1.5M, don't know if that's total or per season.

I know Bollig gets a lot of shit (and some deserved), but he's improved offensively, has cut down the stupid a little, and can still be traded down the road.

Looks to me, though, with the Pirri deal and the Bollig signing that this will be the extent of deadline deals, unless Hossa's out long-term.

Dont they need to re-sign Toews and Kane soon? 2014-2015 final season of the deal?

I don't think there will be an issue, especially if the cap does go up the way it is supposed to.

These two will be getting long-term deals they can't refuse to stay here. I think the only "core" player that may not be here after his current deal is Seabrook.

ETA: and maybe Sharp.

Horrible signing. Bollig is a replacement-level player. You can't commit this kind of money to a fungible fourth-liner, not when we have three or four guys ready to come in and replace his production without missing a beat. Just awful.

CH has never been a Bollig guy, and frankly, neither have I, yet, he has improved this season and does what is asked of him. To me, the deal is low-risk, doesn't cost much, and can easily be dealt with should he go south, or if another team is willing to overpay for a guy who doesn't mind getting dirty when needed, and score the occasional goal. He is a slightly smarter and more productive version of Carcillo at a comparible/cheaper price.

$1.25M/season isn't really a lot, is it?

It is CH, he is against everything when it comes to the Blackhawks.

I'm with Minooka, but I don't dislike Bollig as much as he does. He's fine for what he is.

The deal is fine. You gotta have guys like him, and he has gotten better and I see no reason why he won't continue to improve. It isn't that much money.

At least Pirri is gone....(sarcasm). He was traded to the old reliable Panthers. He never got a legit shot.

For a fourth-line wing who brings minimal offense and a lot of dumb penalty minutes, it's a little excessive. I guess a good comparison would be Ben Eager or Dan Carcillo vis-a-vis Andrew Shaw on his ELC -- particularly Carcillo, since their tenures overlapped. Were Eager and Carcillo overpaid for what they brought to the team? Not in and of themselves, no, but once you can get equivalent (or superior) production from a younger, cost-controlled player, then they are. Even with the cap going up, every dollar counts, and this is about $500,000 too much.

Also, we're talking about a guy going into his age 28 season. The pipeline has no shortage of younger guys with higher ceilings who should be getting looks over Quenneville's security blanket. We're expecting contributions from Mark McNeill, Philip Danault, and Garret Ross (who in particular is a Shaw/Bollig type). Jeremy Morin still can't crack a lineup.

I'm hoping this is about putting money on the books for a trade (Bollig is worthless as an expiring contract), but it doesn't look likely.

In praise of Bollig, however, he has dropped a lot of the idiocy that characterized his first season. The Blackhawks are 29th in the league in fighting majors with 8 in 62, behind only Detroit's 7. Consider that 25 of 30 teams have at least 21 fighting majors. I'll never be his biggest fan, but I can't deny that he bought in.

Bolland? I've seen nothing to that effect. He's still on the last year of the contract he signed with Chicago. Also still injured, I believe.

I would not extend him if I were Toronto given the severity of his freak injury (and the lingering effects of all the other injuries), but the stupid flows like a mighty river there, so I wouldn't be shocked if he did get $5MM/yr from them.

Bolland is asking for 5 million a year, but has not received that.

David Clarkson or Ryne Clowe signing is horrible. No need to go Committed Indian on us.

The $500K overpay isn't the disaster that Bickell's $4M deal or Crawford's $6M deal could develop into. Now those are contracts to worry about. I don't think there's a large opportunity cost of playing Bickell either as McNeill and Morin ideally are better than 4th liners. Danault doesn't have the scoring chops to be a top-6 forward. So he'll center the 3rd or 4th which isn't blocked by Bollig. While I prefer to not have Bollig on the team he has progressed and and bought in to Q. Also there will always be a market for neanderthals like him.

I'm with CH on this one ( ).
Bollig is a minimum salary guy, maybe a couple bucks more. There are hundreds of guys with his skills throughout hockey. No reason to sign an extension with him.

Does this mean we can't keep Carcillo?

It's funny, but not altogether unsurprising, how the best thing Carcillo ever did for this team was get injured in his first game and open up a roster spot for Brandon Saad. I wonder if he's going to get a radio show in New York.

Bollig is a 4th liner. He's just a guy. Who cares if he's on the team or not? I don't get extending him.

Is there any way that we can get my guy Frolik back & get rid of Bickell's useless ass?

I don't think you're serious, but the Jets are making a big push and won't sell at the deadline.

I like Frolik a lot & we really miss him on the PK. This isn't hindsight as I said at the end of last season that the Hawks should let Bickell go & keep Frolik. Bickell is just a guy who got hot for a couple of weeks.

I agree with CH, there was no point in doing this. I still think Bollig sucks too.
