Then have to beg people on air for two straight days to buy a seat with the exclusive offer to take a behind the scenes tour of the Score studios and "ask them anything". He said there were only 10 seats available with this special offer....two days later there are only 3 remaining!

Wang recently threw off of a mound for Billy Connors who had nothing but good things to say about Wang.

This is apropos of nothing in particular, but I find Dan's on-air "advertising" for One Step events to be really unseemly.

It's too frequent. But I can't criticize it. Is there a better alternative for the good of mankind?

What's unseemly about it?

I understand that it's his show and his charity but how many other charities has Dan mentioned by name over the past few months/years?

My opinion is undoubtedly colored by my general feelings toward Dan, but he spends so much airtime hocking tickets that the whole thing starts to sound a little self-aggrandizing. Not to mention that it all rings a little hollow when the guy harbors homicidal fantasies about people who raise money for cancer research in ways that are insufficiently genteel.

I mean, he does push it rather hard, and the quid pro quo of the whole studio visit/buy-in thing got a little icky (unless I'm hearing it wrong, the visit was something where you had to call the contest line to win, not just an open invitation where whoever's interested can swing by), but at least it's an admirable cause.

I will criticize it then - way too frequent, and it loses the power of the message by being repeated too often. As stated in other threads, there are many better ways Dan could spend time to drum up business.

He sounds desperate. Like they haven't sold many seats.

That goes without saying. But Dan's become such a bilious prick that the ends don't justify the means.

I'm with Dave. I couldn't stand hearing about One Step even when I still listened to the show and tolerated Bernsie. It seems so forced and not very genuine. Dan's a phony and I'd probably go out of my way to avoid donating to anything he is affiliated with. I feel that way about most charity solicitations. I don't want to hear it. Tell your sob stories somewhere else. So I'm a jag. An asshole. I can live with it.

There are thousands of charities out there. Why would I give to one with a frontman who is completely unlikeable? That's the risk you run when you have one of the world's biggest walking rectums as a spokesman.

Dan probably cares more about his charity work than his bad sports thoughts.

Another thought: the whole recent poker thing (mainly Texas Hold'em) that was the fad sweeping across the globe died some time ago, plus the new venue is different with fewer seats than before (translation: more $$ to buy in, I would think).

My guess is if they are struggling to hit their goals from this event, either it will have to be marketed differently (maybe across all of the local CBS radio stations), or shitcanned altogether for some other fundraiser.

They should move it to Arlington Heights!

Do something special or unique.

I can find 10 poker tournaments in Chicago on any given weekend.
