I'll be watching this afternoon after work. Glad to hear that things might be on the upswing.

Was Leonard actually writing much stuff? I didn't think so. Maybe an ep per year?

I thought he was more of a consultant/resource.

That said, the series can't help but suffer from his loss.

Who was the guy that shot the corrupt sheriff? Just some random dude? This show brings back characters from past seasons that I barely remember quite frequently so I'm thinking he's some guy who had a story arc for a few episodes and then disappeared.

Don't think he's from the past. He's just a guy Boyd knew from the mine with black lung that was dying and Boyd could provide for the family.

I want to talk minor spoilers, but I will wait a day as I just watched the episode.
It looks like they are done with plot development and on to getting shit done (read: killing people).

It was definitely the best episode of the season. Still kinda waiting for things to gel, it has
been a bit disjointed to me for whatever reason.

I'm upset they killed the balck guy. His character seemed like it had a lot of bad ass villain potential. Thought for sure his fate would be on the receiving end of one of Raylan's quick draws.

And how dumb is that prison guard? What's the over under on how many episodes before Boyd visits him at his home?

I think the Haitian was underutilized but I guess as a red herring (man, I can't wait until his showdown with Raylan...oh wait...). Good surprise I guess.
That prison guard should be more concerned with the female guard. She is the one who will kill him.

I liked the Haitan as well. Reminds of this other character they had a few seasons back. The actor who played Quinn on Dexter played this creepy assassin who was good with a knife in one of the season openers. He'd sit at a table with whomever he was going to kill and put a gun in the middle of the table. Of course, Raylen caught him. Pissed me off since I liked the character. Guy only lasted one episode.

Yeah, they totally wasted the Hatian character. He could have had some legs - as a foil for Darryl, Raylan, trouble for Boyd - shit, that dude never even got to flex his bag of tricks. He probably got called off set to do another series or something that paid more, so they wrote him out.

That seemed like a totally unnecessary and abrupt take-out.

I just read that the Haitian guy didn't like how his character was being developed and asked off the show. He was supposed to die later in the season but they just figured that was a good time to kill him off and added a couple scenes to explain his absence in later episodes he was supposed to be in.

Quote:
Let’s talk about Danny’s scene with Kendal and Jean-Baptiste (Edi Gathegi). I did not see Jean-Baptiste’s death coming.

Nor did we. (Laughs) So the Danny-Kendal scene, we wanted to establish this thing that Danny’s got, the idea of the 21 foot rule. You can look it up online. The idea is supposedly that within 21 feet, a guy with a knife can beat a guy with a gun, if the gun is holstered. If the knifer takes the initiative and starts running as he’s pulling the knife, while the other guy’s trying to pull his gun, the knifer can win. That came up early in the writers room this past summer and was one of the things that we decided to give to Danny from the beginning of the season. Then we wanted to see him torment Kendal with it.

And the idea for Danny to shoot Jean-Baptiste?

Listen, we make our best efforts early on in the season as we hire actors to come on the show, and we can’t always guarantee them what they’re gonna be doing or where it’s gonna go. Getting Edi Gathegi was a big get for us, but the character just wasn’t panning out for him. He didn’t see where it was going, and even though we were thinking that Jean-Baptiste would survive until toward the end of the season, Edi wasn’t enjoying the journey. We had no contract to hold him to, so we said, “Well, let’s kill off Jean-Baptiste in episode 5.” We weren’t sure how we were gonna do it, and then we watched the scene between Jean-Baptiste and Danny, and it became clear that there was such animosity there, that man it could work. So the scene got adjusted to play it this way. What we then found from that, which you’ll see in subsequent episodes, is that it gave us a lot: It established Danny’s close to psycho pathology and his really bad judgment. And it also was something that happened in front of Kendal. Kendal’s known that he’s living in a crime family, but I don’t know what truly bad stuff he’s seen. You’ll see in subsequent episodes the effect that this has on him and really how that propels us to toward the end of the season.

Boyd's got a couple new dogs to unleash. Didn't see that coming. I thought he and Crowes would be battling it out most of the season.

I had a question from last week's episode, when Dewey Crowe, (Michael Rapaport's character), said to the kid well throw some bones later, what is that, is it a card game?

Just wondering.

Pretty sure "bones" is just a slang term meaning to play dominoes.

Crowes + Boyd = magic.

After they finish this series if they decided to do a spin off on Boyd, I would not complain. However, if the series end with Boyd and Rayland killing each other, I guess that can't happen.

Yes, that's how I would end it.

I think it ends with Raylan killing Boyd.

I don't see how it can't.

I won't spoil it, but will be interesting to see how Boyd's crew gets out.

I think the kid is ready to talk, starting to think he will tell Raylan.

Williams Forsythe this week and next week Eric Roberts! Forsythe was barely used. Pissed me off. Looks like a one-time guest appearance.

Damn, sweet episode,

Farewell, Danny! Farewell, Chelsea! I was getting pretty sick of that 21 foot rule bullshit anyhow. Glad Eric Roberts isn't dead - though I wonder why Danny would leave a mess like that behind.

You just knew that Art was gonna get his cap peeled back when he insisted on going in solo, too.

Probably the best episode of the season and I hope it continues to ramp up. Only 3 episodes left this season.

Pretty good set up episode for the season finale, lots of loose ends to try to tie up. I personally don't think
the chief is going to pull through, but would be fine with that. Boyd had maybe the best scene of the season
in the hotel room. I won't spoil it for anyone that didn't see it.

Im starting to think that too T-bone about the Chief, I almost thought at the end, that's how it was going to end with him gone, I would have thought Tim for Captain, not who they chose.

Yeah not liking her as the new chief. Also I know that there was a lot of people up in arms about the casting of
Rapaport but I have not really been bothered by the odd accent and he does make a pretty decent bad guy on
the show. Part of me would like to see his storyline arc into next season as I am not sure there is a good way
to dispose of him in just one more episode.

They addressed Art's options for a replacement earlier in the season. I think episode 1.

Raylan. No.

He thought Tim had PTSD.

His only issue with Rachel was that she was going through a divorce.

I just watched the last two episodes. They set up the rest of the season real well.
Also, if a Wynn Duffy spin-off show isn't even thought about when this show ends, it would be a tragedy.
I'd rather watch "Wynn, lose or draw" over "Better call Saul"

Mary Steenburgen is going to be on the show next year. I'm also a Wynn Duffy fan. The guy's mannerisms and subtle facial expressions are very amusing. And bring back Eric Roberts! The Ava story is so fucking drawn out and boring. What was the point of bringing back Dickie for five minutes? The people running this show have made some weird choices this season with characters. Should have kept the Haitian instead of the Crowe brother. Williams Forsythe for like five lines of dialogue? Oookay.
