They signed him because they thought they were being smart with an undervalued, young player. It just turns out they were wrong. Now they are retrofitting the reasoning.

Where is your Conor Gilespie jersey?
Comparing a rookie making a few hundred thousand to a shitty pitcher making over $10million. Real smart, bigfan.

Give him the 3B job and see what he can do. Why not? To hell with Valbuena and Murphy.

I agree. I think they are trying to trade Barney too then once Baez is no longer a "Super 2" he will come up and either take over at 2nd or go to 3B if Olt sucks.

Exactly. Should have done this with Vitters so his dead ass would be out of baseball.

Long article yesterday on the 25 year old batting .125 this spring, talking about how he is now relaxed. Having fun, getting back to his old ways.

Looks to me like he has accepted the fact he will be working at Sports Authority soon

Dude has some serious power.
There's a good chance he turns into a Jake Fox type with a good glove......reserve corner IF with pop off the bench. Not a horrible thing but realistic.
But IF IF IF IF he comes even close to being what they thought he was before the injury last year WOW look out.
Theo & Jed talk about inventory and it appears they're very close to having a surplus of young power hitters.

Catcher - Castillo
3rd - Olt
SS - Baez
2B - Castro
1B - Rizzo
LF - Solar
C- Almora
RF - Bryant

The odds of that happening are slim to none but some combination of many in that group and the waves (some good names not on that list) behind them should have even the idiots asking for a 120 million dollar payroll 85 win team perk up.

Yeah, they've done a nice job stockpiling hitting prospects. The pitching is rough though.

Close as in two steps away from MLB?

I give Olt leeway because of the vision problems. Jackson just doesn't seem real good.

5 or 6 of those 8 will play in the MLB this year

.417 OBP!!

I still think Brett Jackson can be a decent piece on a MLB team. Though it looks to be as a 4th outfielder with the OF prospects the Cubs have.

.220 with 4 HR's, while playing good defense. Leave him there all year! It's his job this year to lose!

The development of this guy could be icing on the cake at some point.

It's pretty annoying that he hasn't been playing every day. I don't expect him to be a world beater, but he has potential. Let him play! Let's see what he can do with some consistent playing time. No one else on the roster is worth playing instead of him.

Yep!

he is showing power, not warning track power like the replaceable OF's, but grown man power.

Also, if he sticks, you need to start working bryant out in RF if thats the route you are going to go.

Could easily start Olt 5 times a week and platoon Valbuena and Barney at 2b

Its absurd

Bonifacio in center.
Lake in left.
Platoon right.
Olt third
Castro ss
Valbuena barney platoon second
Rizzo first
Castillo catcher

Nothing else makes sense.

According to a report from the Sun-Times, Mike Olt “is going to get his chance” to be the Cubs starting third baseman. Rick Renteria said “he plans to scrap the third base rotation he’s used since the season started.”
The Cubs have been very cautious with Olt. Renteria said Tuesday night the team’s approach with him has been “calculated” but Renteria now plans “to throw him out there and let him run with it a little bit.”
