First winter storm named after something from Star Trek.

naming winterstorms is completely stupid.

Are we going to name spring/summer thunderstorms next?

They're already doing it with Tornadoes.

so we officially name "winter storms" now? every time there's an 8"+ storm on the east coast we have to give it a name like a hurricane and cover it as the biggest news ever? this goes hand in hand with my noticing that as a whole severe weather is being ratcheted up to the point of insanity (see that severe/ish thunderstorm that delayed bears/ravens by 2hrs last year) and constant red-BREAKING-NEWS/EMERGENCY!!!! coverage and etc etc etc.

it doesn't get cold anymore, it's a fucking polar vortex!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it doesn't just snow a whole bunch anymore, it's #WinterStormVulcan!!!!!!!!

give me a break. you'd swear to god the whole nation thinks it lives in san diego or houston or something, and houston is notable cuz whenever they get a proper icestorm down there 5+ people die on the highways.
