A Plane full of asians/malaysians/etc (Yeah, its a stereotype)....I am going to say a few cell phones and tablets were on that plane! they dont have tracking systems on every single plane? Everyone in the world is tracked these days. It takes some effort to not get tracked, you cant tell me that they dont have a general area of where this plane was...or someone had a phone on ,,,so if they cabin depressurized and everyone was knocked out, the plane just flies straight for a long period of time....and there is no GPS trail???????????

Time to get the tinfoil hats out. I am sure the theories are already there, but is one of these crazy things going to be true?

I find it hard to believe the US doesn't track every single plane in the world.

yes big, they have floating cell towers every 5 square miles in the ocean that could have easily tracked everyone and logged their last ip ping. cell towers that reach 30,000ft up in the air too

also, gps constantly beams a signal to space where satellites pick it up. thats exactly how it works. its not like there a a few dozen gps satellites that do nothing more then pump out a timing signal that your device uses to triangulate its own position, meaning its a one way "communication" where there actually isn't a way for the government to know where you are based off gps alone. it would be silly if they actually had to use an land based data signal to send the gps results from the phone to the nsa.

you might want to just delete this thread. save yourself man

i have to agree with this. with all of the monitoring we do militarily and for weather research, it seems like there HAS to be some trail left on some databank. its just too hard to believe they didn't know where the plane was when they lost communication with it. someone knows, and i think they dont want to tell anyone because whatever happened to the plane is still happening to it (held hostage somewhere).

Now I know that there's no cell towers in the ocean but a cell signal should be able to reach 30,000 feet. That's just over 5 miles or so... in clear open area, a cell tower should be able to broadcast over 25 miles... in a city, it's like a mile but we're talking unobstructed LOS here.

They don't? I thought radio transmissions were onmidirectional. They're not?
If not I apologi.

Have a sentence with a shot or one liner in it. Then follow with exclamation point!

You think after a week the plane would be found with all the tracking done these days. It's not that much water!

they certainly could be if they wanted to, but they are directional. look at a cell tower sometime, they have multiple rectangular nodes that are highly directional. they just place a bunch of them around in a circle to give an even coverage around the tower, but they are actually aimed slightly towards the ground. they do this to increase range and decrease interference with the next cell towers close to them. this is not to say that signals don't bounce off the ground and go to the sky, which is why you can still get a signal sometimes a few thousand feet up, but it really doesnt work that well.

thats also why planes that offer wifi now must use satellites to get a data signal. you dont notice it, they convert the satellite signal to wifi on the plane so its transparent to the user, but it is a costly addition for airlines to carry.

of course, the wifi and cellular chips in your phones are a different story. they have to be omnidirectional because they dont know what position the phone is in at any given time relative to the cell towers. if you make a directional cellular antenna for your phone, you can increase its range to the closet cell tower my multiples without increasing the power output at all. but its just not practical for real world use of course.

Yes. But only backwards through time.

technically yes, if the logical explanation is true. they actually think giant methane bubbles from the bottom of the ocean build up and release in a huge plume of gas, causing engines to fail due to lack of oxygen. you cant see it, but suddenly you crash and sink.

i dont know if they ever proved that theory though.. but it was the most logical and partially proven at some point a few years ago. more methane seeps from the ocean floor there then most any other place i guess.

and 6 years from then people will be talking about how 8 years ago the board was better than 4 years prior than that, which is 6 years later than when it was actually better. if brad is taking the train and simon is traveling at a speed twice as fast but three times slower than an airplane, who will get to charlie's house first, who lives 50 miles from them?

looks like stupid civilians are not the only ones guessing

Quote:
A U.S. defense official said a Navy P-3 Orion aircraft had already searched the Strait of Malacca.

It is one of the most baffling mysteries in the history of modern aviation - there has been no trace of the plane since nor any sign of wreckage despite a search by the navies and military aircraft of over a dozen countries across Southeast Asia.

"It's extraordinary that with all the (satellite and telecommunication) technology that we've got that an aircraft can disappear like this," Tony Tyler, the head of the International Air Transport Association that links over 90 percent of the world's airlines, told reporters in London.

http://news.msn.com/world/satellites-pi ... ources-say

Quote:
Two of the passengers on board were discovered by investigators to have false passports, but they were apparently seeking to emigrate illegally to the West.

The Boeing 777 has one of the best safety records of any commercial aircraft in service. Its only previous fatal crash came on July 6 last year when Asiana Airlines Flight 214 struck a seawall with its undercarriage on landing in San Francisco, killing three people.

this is so fucked up....

sending in the black ops machinery too!! wow

Quote:
The P-8, which is the U.S. Navy’s most advanced antisubmarine and aerial reconnaissance aircraft, would move into the area on Saturday to join the search in a daily rotation with the P-3, said Seventh Fleet spokesman Cmdr. William J. Marks.

The P-8 has a maximum speed of 490 knots (or nautical miles per hour), a ceiling of 41,000 feet and provides a range of more than 1,200 nautical miles with four hours on station, he said. That’s about 300 nautical miles further than the P-3.

For a search mission like this, the P-8 would typically fly at 5,000 to 10,000 feet at 350 knots, with a search time of about 8-9 hours, depending on distance to search area, he said.

Does all this cool stuff our military is using to find a plane full of dead people (as well as all the humanitarian crap) count against our massive unnecessary military budget?

Just so I am clear, everyone, including the US Military are idiots for trying to use modern technology to find any trace of any signal that at the very least can identify where the plane was last identified....but IKE SOUTH from the CSFMB is saying it is impossible to do?
