Safety Checkpoint on 294 South this weekend

Safety Check on I-294 This Friday and Saturday
Checkpoint will be set up in southbound lanes near O'Hare Airport.

Heading into St. Patrick's Day weekend, the State Police will conduct a roadside safety check on the southbound Tri-State Tollway near the Irving Park Road exit and O'Hare International Airport on Friday and Saturday, the Illinois Toll Highway Authority announced Monday.

The I-294 safety check will take place between 11 p.m. Friday, March 14, and 4 a.m. Saturday, March 15, said Capt. Patrick Kimes.

"The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois," reads the tollway authority's statement. "Officers working this detail will be watchful for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, or driving under the influence (DUI)."

hard to believe theyre doing this on a major roadway though? I didnt think these were even legal on interstates? wouldnt this literally make it a federal checkpoint? is this not the first time? holy shit man... i guess at least they are announcing it well ahead of time... anyone that goes through it is just dumb anyway.

Probably have troopers manning (OMAHA!) the manual booths to get a look-see/smell before pulling them over near the exit. I remember seeing something similar like 15 years ago.

They may have started pursuing him because he tried to evade the checkpoint, but in reality he was fleeing from police when he plowed into the crowd. People flee police at high rates of speed for all sorts of illegal reasons. The checkpoint didn't cause people to die.

That's different than saying he took a left turn to go around the checkpoint and then hit people.

when you evade a checkpoint, you expect to be chased. he could have just raced off knowing they would try coming after him, even if they didnt because they knew it would be dangerous.

no but you can blame the safety checkpoint for creating an unnecessary risk.

it seems like the governments are desperately grasping for power before the inevitable happens, when cars drive themselves and there is literally no reason for cops to patrol. they will be turned into fireman and emts- only come when youre called otherwise STAY THE FUCK AT THE STATION.
