Stochasticity Project: Grapefruit Slam IPA. Decent. Untappd is telling me it's supposed to be like Hopslam or Rogue 7 Hop. It is not.

I know this isn't a snobby beer, but I had some when my wife (then gf) were in the DR in 2011 and remember it being quite good. Bought a 12 pack yesterday and Binny's and this is what I will be consuming later tonite;

I've had that bomber in my fridge for a couple weeks. Need to crack it open soon.

I had some Ithaca Beer Company Flower Power IPA on tap a few weeks ago and really enjoyed its assertive but not overwhelming grassy and piney flavor profile. Based on that experience, I bought a 6-pack and have been pretty disappointed. Maybe I got a bad batch.

Incidentally, if any of you ever come across the Maine Beer Company's Lunch IPA, buy as much of it as you possibly can. It is one of the best IPAs to be found anywhere.

Hell yes. Pops brought me a single bottle back from Maine last year. Loved it. I was lucky enough to score a bottle when my Binny's got a case recently. They limited it to one bottle/person, and the case sold out within an hour. Crazy. Though I must say this bottle tasted a bit off. Have you had Another One from them? I think it's better than Lunch.

And I've never understood the Flower Power love. It's good. Nothing great.

My local establishment typically has a nice assortment of Maine Beer Company options. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Nice choice, JORR. Firestone makes some good beers. You might want to change out of the fedora and suit before you start.

We had a small tasting last night at a liquor store I frequent. We had:

Elevated IPA
Fathead's Head Hunter
Fathead's Hop Juju
Clown Shoes Space Cake
Maine Beer Company Another One
Oskar Blues Gubna
Half Acre Najava
Green Flash Palate Wrecker

Might have been a couple others that escape me. Some damn good beers on that list.

Did Fathead and Maine Beer Company start distributing out here? I haven't seen them yet but being in McHenry County we are always last to get the new beers distributed.

MBC started distribution here last year, around November-December. Lunch and Another One (my two favorites, by a mile) were bar only until recently, when Binny's and a few other places started getting them.

I traded for the Fathead's. You know I love me some Head Hunter? When are you headed east again :)

I will be on the lookout for MBC beers.

Might head to Ohio for Easter - not sure yet. Will definitely let you know.

I love it - have a bomber sitting right next to me waiting for the perfect time.

I'm a sucker for rye IPAs.

For an alternate, pick up Great Lakes Rye of the Tiger. Not a black Rye IPA but pretty darn good.

Had Lil One about a week ago - definitely some strong stuff but a sweet IPA with high octane. Not sure I'd buy again at the price point but it was a good one to try.

Had the Stone Enjoy by 4-20-14 over the weekend. I didn't like it as much as some of the other "Enjoy By" offerings I've tried in the past. Nothing really stood out about it, except for some pronounced bitterness.

I thought the Stone Go-To IPA was pretty good, kind of rich and buttery, but nothing spectacular.

Yep. I had a bomber of it last Thursday and wasn't a fan. Had it on draft yesterday and thought it was much better. Try it on draft if you can find it.

Bought a six pack of O'Fallons Smoked Porter. One of my favorites that for whatever reason isn't available all the time around here. Also got what I think will be the last six of Tommyknocker Cocoa Porter. Another good one that I wish was a year rounder.

Greenbush Brewery in Salem Michigan is good....

HOWEVER...I've bought two six packs of their beer "Closure" on separate occasions and they have both been super carbonated. You cannot pour them in a glass without waiting an hour to drink the thing. It's like a shaken up two-liter of coke.

I went to my local beer store, and asked if they had any Hopslam. They said no, we only got one case, and we could only sell it one at a time, and it was overrated so you didn't miss much. He said you should just get a Ballast Point Sculpin instead.

So, my review of Hopslam is that I couldn't find it.

Hopslam is rated properly. It is a fantastic beer. Sculpin is good, but it is no Hopslam.

He only got one case, because he doesn't sell enough Bell's product.

Hopslam is far and away the best beer I've ever had.

The liquor store by me was trying to get me to buy a 4 pack of KBS from founders..i asked how much and they said $30.

Never had it before so I wasn't about to drop that much on something like that.

This raises the pivotal question: What is the best beer you've ever had?

I stand by Zombie Dust. I've had Heady, Pliny, BCBS, etc., but ZD remains #1.

If they brew it again or you can find it (unlikely) try the barrel Aged Apocolypse Cow. It's Zombie Dust meets BCBS.

As much as I enjoyed my Hopslam last night, it's KBS week. Keep your focus. It hits some stores today.
