Gleaming state-of-the-art facilities in Mesa, Ariz., and the Dominican Republic reportedly are nice enough to give minor leaguers second thoughts once they report to the decaying building on the North Side. Enthusiastic new manager Rick Renteria, hired only because Epstein erred in evaluating Dale Sveum, already left an impression talking to rookies in Spanish and English.

Who gives a shit? I've now watched Renteria in a couple of interviews. I predict he will become the Latin Mike Quade before too long. He latches on to phrases like "quite frankly" and will repeat it 4-5 times in 2 minutes. I don't know how he got through the interview process. Dale Sveum got the heave-ho without a solid explanation from Theo. If Renteria bombs,Theo actually might get some criticism in this town.

From the Trib:In his first camp as manager, Renteria doesn’t appear to enjoy directly answering questions, unlike predecessor Dale Sveum, who may have been too honest for his own good.

Does Renteria like dealing with the media, or is it just an occupational hazard?

“It doesn’t bother me,” he replied. “I know it’s a part of what goes on.”

They should just hire an illegal immigrant who is bilingual and pay him 2 dollars an hour to manage. BOOM - just saved a couple mil.
