There is almost nothing North did that really affected Bernstein to the point that he should have two thoughts about North. North destroyed top billing shows like Monsters and HFC but Dan and Terry do not seem to hold ill will for Mike.

Dan has expressed this ridiculous belief before.

He believes that the change in ratings was not due to the change in how they record ratings, but rather because North left and it became smart radio.


He truly believes this and that alone shows he's not nearly as bright as he thinks he is

That is just plain stupid. The Score needs a couple of "regular Joe" types. That should have been the purpose of the Scoresearch contests, instead they chose Gavin & Berger, Ye gads!

If there was no North, sports talk radio would have fit in the Coppock paradigm. The Score was fully prepared to be a station that featured nothing but establishment types who would have been happy to curry favor with the teams at the expense of the fans.

North's immediate populist popularity changed that plan. It allowed Mac to be Mac, as, at the time, he Terry was warning him to never embrace fans of the station. It allowed Jiggets to loosen up from the TV stiff that he was hired to portray. Even Terry, who was always known as a fun guy, was able to let it loose on the station, against his initial idea of a radio persona.

North was great for the station, great for the industry and ultimately great for sports in this city.

Honestly, fuck Dan Bernstein. I know Dan Bernstein. I have lived with the Dan Bernstein's of the world my entire professional career. I see right through him to the core insecurities that fuel his fear (not hate but fear) of a world of Mike Norths.

I'd have loved North to have been around when FOTS declared he once could dunk a tennis ball, or turn around a 95mph fastball. Or when Laurence started talking up his athletic & women chasing pursuits.

Neither could have taken the ridicule that North would still be dishing out.

Update guy mentions the Tigers shortstop for whom they traded Prince Fielder's wife's boyfriend Avisail Garcia to the White Sox will be out for most of the season due to fractures in his shins. Bernstein made an actual funny, "and members of the Shins" which ended up falling flat as the update guy hadn't heard of the Shins.

What a beautiful day for the boards, defending North and hating on Bernsie. I am proud of you guys. I wasn't much of a North fan, but the station was much better back in those days. It was fun and light. If I wanted smart radio, then NPR would be my choice.

The silence while Bernstein was mouthing DaMaNa was almost as deafening as the uncomfortable chuckles that followed.

I hope Mac sticks around just to make Bernsie's station life uncomfortable.

I really soured on North at the end but I would take him in a heartbeat over Bernstein.

This has been the best part of the whole thing, Mac going after Bernsie from a number of angles.

Let's not romanticize what North became. He was intolerable at the end. The Mike North Morning Show was as detrimental to the station as anything Bernstein has done.

Before we get too carried away here, let's not forget that North was just as guilty of all the stuff we get on Bernstein about: creepy casual racism, disregard for listeners, circling up wagons with spineless yes-men, faithfully carrying water for team owners. That's what makes this whole thing so upsetting.

I think Mac to the new WGNG or whatever is a done deal. I don't think Finfer/McKnight jump to WGNG otherwise. Mac likely
conveyed his roster requests to his future employer and they are proceeding to fill-out that roster, as tactfully as they can.

Did they get to paint his man-cave?

I was talking about old North over current Bernstein.

Totally agree about North at the end. Absolute train wreck. I couldn't wait for him to be gone. But if I could have the "Pappy" North or Bernsie? I'm taking Pappy.
