Interesting take after watching a documentary last night about how coaches running the sidelines like lunatics made the Big East.

Bernsie was sharing how he wanted the NCAA to crack down on coaches who were out of control on the sidelines. They should not be allowed out of their box and should not be able to talk to the refs during the actual game but only when they asked permission during the timeouts.

That was a great documentary.

Personally I completely disagree with Bernsie here. I love that college has coaches like that. Groce, Boeheim, Coach K....they are a huge part of what make it interesting and why I enjoy it.

I had $300 on Duke laying 6 to Syracuse a couple weeks ago when I was in Vegas. The fucking game was over for me. I didn't know who was going to win, but Duke sure wasn't going to cover. Then Jim Boeheim granted me a miracle by pulling his coat over his head and running on the court motherfucking the referee. Double technical and I get away with a push. I'll love Boeheim forever.

Some of his press conferences are classic too. The one from back in the 80s when he throws the chair is great.

Those were great days for college hoops. I remember there were a lot of ACC games on too. One of my good friends is still a huge Georgia Tech fan since he started pulling for them when they had the good team with Yvon Joseph, Mark Price, John Salley, and my high school classmate and fellow harness racing aficionado, Scott Petway.

It's relative, though. While North was race-baiting and vowel-shifting, B&B were running T.B. Diddler's skits and bantering with Joe in Evanston. Now that Bernstein's turned the station into his personal fiefdom, we get the worst of both worlds: eugenics and sabermetrics in equal measure. Given the choice between a hot-dog vendor who's too dumb not to be a racist billionaire-slurper and a poseur who takes great pains to sheathe what's essentially Neoliberalism Gone Wild in five-dollar words and Gladwellian pseudoscience, I think the latter is infinitely more socially corrosive.

You are looking at it the wrong way. The question should be what do you want from your station. I have always said there is room for Bernstein at the score, even the Bernstein of today. The station is failing in balancing him. He should not be in afternoon or morning drive where he feels empowered instead he should be mid days or nights were he understands that he is a niche broadcaster consumed by a relatively happy few dorks

Oh, he's 6 feet onto the court for 12 minutes per game.

I know that, but when we're talking about "interfering with play" I take it to mean he got in someone's way or touched the ball. Sure, Groce is on the wilder side, but none of these maniacs stays in the coach's box.

Supposedly there was some discussion about it after the Purdue game. There was at least one play where he was very close to an opposing player and did nothing to move.

My guess is that at some point a coach is going to instruct the player to run into him.
