Even the crap they have can't float to the surface! This has all the makings of a team that might struggle to win 60 games!

PHOENIX -- James McDonald's bid to earn the fifth spot in the Chicago Cubs' rotation suffered a blow Monday when he was pulled after two pitches because of right shoulder soreness.

McDonald, who missed the final five months of the 2013 season with Pittsburgh because of a right shoulder injury, received medical attention after his second pitch of the game against Oakland's Coco Crisp sailed to the backstop at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

Manager Rick Renteria was accompanied by a trainer as they visited the mound and quickly determined that McDonald was not healthy enough to continue.

Yao-Lin Wang replaced McDonald. Wang, who signed at $260,000 bonus out of Taiwan in 2009, was pulled after allowing an RBI single to Nick Punto with one out in the second, and the Athletics increased their lead to 2-0 when Eric Sogard's bunt off Jeffrey Lorick scored Stephen Vogt.

The Cubs stranded runners at first and second in the top of the first. Joe Savery, a last-minute replacement when Scott Kazmir was diagnosed with left triceps soreness, struck out Javier Baez to end the rally.

Savery struck out Junior Lake and Darwin Barney to start the game and struck out five in two innings.

Thank God for Edwin Jackson. The 15 million dollar innings eater.

If we were relying on James McDonald to be a part of the rotation, we'd be lucky to win 60 games.

He is terrible. That was strictly taking a flyer on a guy who has had injuries so now that he's hurt again, who cares.

Hendricks has pitched well, but of course they don't want his service clock to start so they farmed him out already.

Looks like Rusin is going to be the 5th starter.

The starting rotation definitely looks subpar but the bullpen should be good assuming Veras doesn't suck.

Is it 2015 yet??!!
