I'm not really troubled by his money. It is a little uncomfortable this year but much more acceptable afterwards (the anti Renisdorf contract).

I would have been very comfortable letting him walk, signing MicNoon at a friendly contract and drafting one of the top guys this year, then having a boatload of cash for FA after losing Jay and Peppers. Still Jay is OK in my book

I bet he really thought he was going to get a longer deal with Tampa.

Great! I would not play him in ANY exhibition games. He doesn't need it.

For sure. I did too, though. Thought either way he would get a 2 year deal whether it was Tampa or Chi.

Great price:

Adam Caplan ‏@caplannfl 2m
Charles Tillman's one-year deal with the #Bears is worth just under $3.5 m, per source.

Sweet.

I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed here even with a 2-year offer from TB. He's pretty entrenched in this community and I think he plans to continue post-NFL career.

This is what drives me crazy. It shouldn't be the standard. I'm not sure if another team would have given him what the bears did.

Glad to have Peanut back. He might not be an every down player anymore, but at $3.5 Million it is worth keeping him around.

No other NFL team would have given Cutler a $125 Million contract. The Bears got fleeced.

False.

And not all that is guaranteed so....

Let's run those numbers again with production rather than perceived "skills".

I guess the Texans are stupid for not realizing what they have in Matt Schaub.

Like I said previously, it's not an accurate reflection of his talent, skills, production, etc. He would have gotten that money elsewhere because, for whatever reason, GMs will be drawn more to him than to someone like Schaub.

I just disagree it is standard money. I think the perception of Jay Cutler puts him closer to Matt Schaub than it is the people he is compared to like Romo or Flacco.

There probably would have been a stupid team that would have paid him similar though. It only takes one.

I think it is standard money for the same reason people gamble and draft players like JeMarcus Russell in the first round: raw ability and talent. GMs fixate on the ability and think "what if." Teams like Jacksonville, Arizona, Cleveland, NYJ, etc., would have paid money for someone like Cutler, unless they decided it couldn't work scheme wise, or if they preferred to go younger.

Arizona and Cleveland I think would be possibilities. I guess we'll never really know. It will be interesting to see what happens with Schaub. Schaub and Cutler aren't that far apart no matter how many teams think they can "change Cutler".

I think it's a good depth move if it's for the vet min.

Schaub has been a better QB. It's a perception vs reality thing. If Cutler ever consistently plays up to his talent it will be worth it.

CHICAGO -- The left shoulder injury that knocked Bears linebacker Lance Briggs out of seven games last season will force the seven-time Pro Bowl selection to wear a harness under his shoulder pads next season.

Briggs told ESPN 1000's "Carmen and Jurko Show" on Monday that he is still recovering from the fractured shoulder he suffered while attempting to make a tackle in the Bears' 45-41 loss to the Washington Redskins on Oct. 20.

Bears need to sign another cheap vet and draft a replacement. I think there's very little chance he doesn't miss games or is as impactful as he's previously been.

He is the best in the league at being a shithead after the whistle. You have to pay the man.

Wilson is the man, I guess. Saves the Bears 2.45m in cap space.

Interesting. So Bennett refuses to take a pay cut but welcomed a weekly pay cut for his stupid ass orange shoes.

The team has divested itself of all players from Angelo's beloved Vanderbilt, except the most expensive player in the league

Deep receiver class this year. I imagine Emery grabs one in the mid-rounds. No way Emery can think Marshall, Jeffrey and Bennett play all 16. Unless he's banking on Wilson? That'd fit his gambling ballsy persona.

I think we signed a guy who will play some WR as well. Hixon?

There are other needs to address in draft. I do not expect or want them using a pick on a WR unless it is the last couple rounds.

I'm with you. I want them to draft all defense except maybe a TE or QB. Hixon and Wilson can compete for the 3rd spot, and Weems as well if he takes the cut. They still have Terrance Tolliver and the CFL guy Chris Williams too.
