Hoop Dreams and Casino were my two worst expericences

Too young to appreciate the point of Hoop Dreams and got pulled out of Casino because the kid who drove had a curfew and didnt know the movie was long.

And yes, I know all the arguments claiming its cinematic greatness & how it was a well acted, heavily textured film. But it bored the hell out of me.

Wow. That movie was outstanding IMHO. I loved it. It has a couple nice social messages (which more or less get undone in the last reel).

I found this flick fascinating, and just a sweet collection of great actors, Eastwood, Hackman, Harris, Freeman...
Great movie. I don't think I could disagree with you more.

Joe vs. the Volcano (personally the worst thing I sort of saw ... purposefully went to sleep about half hour into it to help pass the time faster ... I didn't drive to that particular movie ... never made that mistake again)

McHale's Navy (from 1997 ... I'm guessing a number of you won't even recall this was a movie ... at least it had Ernest Borgnine in it)

The Day After Tomorrow (to be fair, this was a huge bait and switch movie that I wasn't the only chump that fell for it)

It had great actors who all brought their "A" games, agreed. The societal messages were there, but they came across ham handed to me, but I appreciated the effort and still can look beyond that.

At first I thought that I was overly influenced by the extreme boredom that the wife suffered & complained through that had me missing out the greatness of the movie. Then I've tried to watch it a couple of times over the last twenty years.

Nope, it honestly bores the hell out of me.

Interesting. It's certainly no "Bourne" movie with nonstop action. It's a slow building pace with two small peaks and one major climax...

I enjoy the development of the characters. A young gun anxious to get his kill, claiming to be a killer, but once he does it he can't hardly live with himself. The descent of Will Munny, who was quite successful in changing his life, showing real remorse for his actions, and when he hears about Ned he picks up the bottle again, the source of his mean. Ned, who couldn't bring himself to pull the trigger on Davey Boy because he developed the conscience that he didn't have as a youth, or perhaps it's the influence of Sally, he saw the death and just wanted to go home, couldn't bring himself to watch them get the next kill.

And the last 5 minutes makes that movie outstanding.

One time I saw a movie called "Et tu, Brute." It was about an election where one guy thought the other guy would vote for him because they liked the same ballplayer named Jeter, and the other guy did not even like tomatoes, but then the other guy voted for another guy, who has done nothing but show disdain for the club of that ballplayer who they admired.

hear, hear.

i seriously can't believe anyone would be "embarrassed" to say they paid to see stuff like "gangs"; oscar nominated films--unless they were like TM mentioned, "the english patient". "gangs of new york" and "unforgiven" are arguable movies, but i don't think anyone would say out loud that they were embarrassed that they saw them in the theatre. maybe they regretted seeing it or paying the money but...embarrassed? for what?

It's not that I regret seeing The Notebook at the theater, per se. I just felt like kind of a sucker for popping the few extra bucks to see it on the 3D IMAX screen.

That's mine, too.

Mrs. Dr. Ken and I were traveling and decided to take a driving break and stop at this small-town cinema midday on Friday. We were literally the only people in the theatre.

When I bought the tickets, I heard them radio to the guy that he actually had to play the movie. We were the only ones in the theatre. That part was pretty cool. We could just talk to each other like we were in our living room. I wondered if I had to hit the can if they would pause it for me.

Movie was horrible.

I hate you. The first 2/3 of that movie is brilliant. The ending is horrible.

And Reader's thoughts on Unforgiven are ridiculous even by his standards.

Sigh. I hate to admit this:
Freddy got fingered.

I lost a bet and the other guy picked the movie we saw.

aqua teen was unfortunate. i think it was just a prime example that material like that cannot go beyond a half hour span. same thing with tim & eric's billion dollar movie.

pearl harbor was hilarious times. my friend, sister, and i had a blast making fun of it. but then we got angry once it finally got to the actual battle because it was basically "die hard" but...this really happened.

That's because it was directed by Michael freaking Bay. PH was obviously different, but that dude is so wedded to the brain dead summer blockbuster formula that he'd find a way to include prolonged machine gun battles in a biopic about Mother Theresa.

Since when were New Yorkers so touchy? Wait. Connecticut? Really? Oh, that explains it.

Nevermind.

for sure. michael bay's good with what he knows but he crossed the line with "pearl harbor". i don't even care that he'll butcher TMNT because we'll always have the classic 1990 film. fuck this generation...if they don't get a good ninja turtles movie. did they need one? let them have their own heroes.

What was that David Lynch film where some old dude drives his lawnmower from like Iowa to Wisconsin. Took a college girlfriend who was way into Lynch films to a matinee showing of that with the intention of messing around in what we correctly predicted would be an empty theater. The fucking movie was so annoying we ended up watching the whole damn thing. Old dudes on lawnmowers = bad for the libido.

Yeah, for some reason I was thinking 'Magnolia' but that was another movie I went to see with the same girlfriend.

I think Straight was the lawnmower jockey's name, possibly based on a true story. Maybe Lynch saw it as a modern take on Homer's Odyssey, or some never-read Euripides play; the way Mulholland Drive is Lynch's version of Virgil from Dante's Inferno.
