Adam Carolla's show on SPIKE. I know some here give AC the 'Can Do no wrong" label but this was pretty bad of him.

Adam goes and gets "Pedro" who did the original work in someones house.

The guy put in a skylight that leaks !!!!!

Now, I don't know if Pedro has insurance or is licensed, but I will guess he has neither documents. I will also guess Pedro works for $25 an hour.

Can you find someone that will do good work for $25 an hour. Sure you can, but you have the same odds of finding someone who does terrible work, or even just takes the money and runs (Thats called Craigslist)

Adam knows what kind of guy Pedro is. He doesnt come back to fix problems and if the problem is too big and he is going to start losing money on the project, he leaves the project.

So Carolla has his TV crew, the new fancy contractor, the homeowners, everyone circles around Pedro and starts ripping into the guy. Odds are pretty good, Pedro isn't even a legal resident of the US.

Does Adam ever turn to the well to do , upscale LA family who hired Pedro? NO, does he ask them what they were thinking? NO...it's all on pedro

So, he is going to go around LA and find deadbeats that did bad work and didnt come back to fix it. Gotta be better than that. Turn to the family and say "hey cheap mother fuckers, why didnt you call a roofing company that is established and insured?" Oh because you are too cheap!

Is it entertaining at least?

So it's basically the Mike Holmes show where he swoops in and fixes someone elses fuck up, except he takes it one step further and publically shames the guilty party?

Sounds terrible.

As a licensed GC, I am quite sure about the stuff I am saying. Carolla knows it. If that guy showed up on a job, Carolla would never hire him.

Here is a hint. If the guy rolls up in a beat up old van with tons of papers on the dash, you have a 50/50 shot at it going well. You have less of a chance of him coming back to fix it.

Pedro, might be a decent roofer and I as a GC might hire Pedro, but I would watch everything Pedro is doing to see it is done right and I would pay Pedro until I see that it was done right.

I would not hire Pedro as my GC and have him find someone.

I like Holmes and he seems to have a very good knowledge base but it always rubbed me the wrong way when he would rip the guy doing the work to shreds without acknowledging that the homeowners were cheap ass fools for hiring someone off the bottom of the barrel to begin with.

Yup

he brings in entire crews to do work without cost objectivity as well. "You have a hole in the drywall...let's rip out the wall and rebuild it!"

Maybe I should start a show going back to Holmes and Carolla projects ten years later...."Look at this flimsy door..whoever out this in didnt know what he was doing"

The part where the contractor finishes the job and then meets the original people is a little weird -- they are glad the job is done, but hate the contractor's guts, so not sure what is being accomplished there.

I watched the first two, and that will probably be it -- there's other better fake reality out there.

Though this is much better than Mystery Diner.

Also, BigFan he's said none f these people are well off. The pilot episode house was tiny

That's what he says anyway

Carolla benefits from the podcast platform its perfect for him. I don't think he could ever really be funny on any type of regular TV

Actually I said "They are well to do" and that size house in LA is close to a $1M house fixed up.

What is the chance a GC doesn't do a great job? What is the chance that same GC pushes you off repeatedly because they've already got final payment before you discovered your problem?

chances rise that you get treated like that when the guy has no website, no corp, no license, no insurance.

People should realize the chances of a GC coming back to fix something or change it to "The way they wanted it" are slim to none because then it starts costing the person to do the job. Becomes a losing proposition.

It is a major area I focus on making sure guys are not put in a position to lose money, because then you dont see them anymore. Its why I can assemble a great crew of guys because I look out for them. If the job is bigger then originally thought, I go back and get more money.

I thought the man show was hilarious TV as much for Corolla as Kimmel.

I hired Pedro to work on my basement, although on recommendation from a highly respected source. He's been doing great. I do think some of his crew are learning on the job but my wife is familiar with managing construction so she has them correcting as they go along.

Sued for flooding a house with sewage:

Quote:
hen Rochelle Kirk and Scott Waters of Covina, Calif., hired contractors from "Catch a Contractor," a Spike TV reality show, they hadn't bargained on getting 200 gallons of raw sewage with the package.

That's according to their lawsuit, filed this week in Superior Court in Los Angeles County. The show, the two claim, is liable for 200 gallons of raw sewage that spilled into their home. They are suing for more than $2.87 million in compensatory damages.

http://www.contractortalk.com/f22/catch ... ost1966249

Quote:
When I saw the bathroom on the day of the reveal I was shocked. Nothing was done all the way. Walls painted halfway up, nail holes going through one wall into another, floors laid halfway just enough for the camera... Then they discovered the sewer leak. The plumber the show hired forgot to reconnect a sewer line, Im sure you can guess how that ended. My nieghbors begged them to come and check it out but they told them the smell was just a dead mouse in the walls. They had no extra money to hire a plumber because the first contractor took about $20,000 from them and the show made them pay for all the materials which I think they said cost another $15,000. When they finally saved up enough to get another plumber out three months had passed and everything the show did had to be torn out. Nothing was to code, and they are STILL literally reconstructing everything after a remediation company spent 3 weeks cleaning up all the bacteria and mold that the sewer leak caused.
