I worked on a mega hog farm as a youngster. I performed most of the things in that video. Looking back, it was sick. The conditions were sick. They were treated as things, not animals.

I haven't eaten beef or pork in 16 years and after seeing that video I may have to think about giving up chicken. I'm not sure if the stats or information is entirely accurate but that video was disturbing.

But if you eat meat, it's not pretty. I've killed quite a few dinners in my life... I mean hell I shot me a doe in front of a couple fawns before. You gotta unzip the bastard, hang em by the back legs, cool the meat by shoving a 20lb bag of ice in the chest cavity... then cut the legs off and all kinds of shit. I've skinned em, cleaned em, dumped guts.

I would argue the humane part to be perfectly honest. Now... I'm a pretty good shot so my deer never lasted longer than about 20-30 seconds. I've hit the heart 3 or 4 times and double lunged the other ones except for one poor bastard I brain panned and he was dead before the sound of the shot got to him. But I went with this one bad shot who gut shot this one, we tracked that fucker for nearly a mile before we came on it, making an awful sound that I won't forget. He is an idiot who just popped off his other two rounds after the first didn't kill and the deer ran off, so I had to head shot the poor fucker. That was my worst hunting experience. That stupid fuck was talking about how great a hunter he was too later at the tavern and I wanted to be like dude no one wants to eat that fucker you gut shot it but I kept my mouth shut.
I had shot this one turkey once at about 50 yards, and that was one tough bird. 50 yards is an insanely long shot for a turkey. It went straight up in the air about 40 feet high and came straight down, I had to put one in it's neck to kill it once I caught up with it and it still didn't want to stop struggling even with it's head pretty much sawn off at the neck.
Most of my pheasants and doves and geese were dead before they hit the ground so I don't feel too very bad. But that one deer kinda fucked me up. I only went one more year after that and haven't gone since. I used to go every year butI haven't been in years... partially because that's the busiest time of year in my line of work but also because of that gut shot poor bastard I had to shoot in the face.

We've raised every form of farm animal here at some point in the last three generations, most were butchered here. Since I was little and the chicken coop went away, only beef cattle. I've only been at the butcher shop one time on a kill day- that was and is enough. Every single day the animals are on my place they are well treated by any standard, and yet I still feel something when we load them up for the last trip. I think our mastery of the animals is God-given, but it does not come without responsibility and conscience.

Many people have died to make sure you can hold an opinion divergent to mine, and to make sure I can make up my own mind.

That's the great thing about the Jews and the Muslims ... can you begin to imagine the fucking price of bacon otherwise?

I was trying to say a person can choose to be vegan, and it does not offend me. I should be able to choose to be an omnivore and not offend anyone either. I think I treat my animals well, I am sure others do not.

Fair enough. I will always love my turkey and fish no matter what.

Who would have thought CSFMB had more than one pig farmer? Although, I worked on a small family farm that was really more of a hobby-type operation. We weren't particularly cruel to the hogs, but we didn't exactly "treat a pig like a pig" either. At the time I was young enough that I wasn't going to question anything. I just figured this is how you do it.

The thing that vegans don't seem to consider is what would happen if man as a whole abdicated his responsibilities as the top predator in the system. There would be a whole different set of problems if man ceased eating meat/killing animals. Man has a responsibility to eat meat and to respect the animals from which that meat comes. In recent decades we haven't been so great at the second part.

Vegan propaganda sounds like something I should have done prior to the CSFMB tournament to have a chance against my guy leash.

I think if your morality allows for the consumption of animals but is uncomfortable with their treatment in mass slaughter spaces then vegan "propaganda" and other literature can be useful for the way they expose conditions in some farms. Proponents of PETA for example and meat consumers will never agree on the notion of killing an animal for food, but there can be overlapping concerns between the two groups when it comes to treatment.
