The Cubs can't block the rooftops without significant upper-class support at key spots during important times.

I mean, everything to the right of the comma is just stupefying.

Pretend for a second that Managing Editor Adam Hog actually has the authority to edit. Does he notice?

Ninja'd by Zizou: I don't know how any right-thinking person could read "at key spots during important times" without retching. Are these also crucial moments, critical stretches, and big minutes?

That sounds dangerously close to "clutch" which any listener to Very Smart Radio knows does not exist.

Is there any doubt this is the truth behind all the Coach K hate.

Coach K was at least part of the reason that Dan attended Duke in the first place. He was scorned by the man. There is nothing like the hate of a lover scorned.

Also, don't trust Dan if he tries to pull a Danny Insider with the guy. He didn't and doesn't.

Dan has said that's why he hates Coach K. He's brought up the false-pretense ice cream social a number of times.

wait, you mean the bigtiming the student journalists and literally lining them up to dress them down in semi-/public was the ice cream false pretense? or are these two separate incidents? if so what's this "ice cream social" you speak of?

i always assumed it was cuz coach K shat all over the student journalists JUST TRYING TO DO THEIR JOB and, by proxy, dan himself. cue that lover scorned remark from above.

That's a different "just doing my job" than the one I'm talking about.

Its akin to "Im doing my best"

He invited the journalists over to meet the team over ice cream and then he laid them out. I don't think there was ice cream.

And yeah, Dan always took it personally for someone who wasn't there. Had he been one of the kids who K screamed at, I would understand, but the proxy-outrage is a little much.

Did the guys already discuss this study which found no link between years of football and neurocognitive function in adolescents? If so, what were Dr. Bernstein's thoughts on it?

and, you see how stories of what happened/what was said get convoluted almost in real time at this place. Imagine how they are altered when being retold by the entitled students of The Daily Blue Devil after being told no for the first time.

If there was no ice cream then that is truly a scumbag move. You dont joke around with ice cream.

I tried listening today on my way home from work, but it seems like the great majority of what they wanted to talk about were things they hated about the tournament, not what they liked about it. In the 20 minutes or so I listened, I heard them point out one thing they liked (Kentucky/Wichita St.) but they droned on and on about the coaches that were eliminated that they can't stand (even got that wonderful Coach K impression), how much the 35 second shot clock sucks, and how they think the college game is so inferior to the pro game (I'm not arguing this isn't true...just thinking that it doesn't really matter to the majority of people who watch the college game)...

...it's a sign of the larger problem I have with this show...it's too fucking negative...I don't want people saying everything is great and their shit doesn't stink, but pretend to at least get some joy out of sports. If you liked the Kentucky game, talk about that (perhaps they did, but for the time I listened it was mentioned in passing)...don't dwell on the shit you don't like...if I wanted to be miserable, I'd stay at work for an extra two hours...entertain me...make me a bicycle, clown!

I too listened for a few minutes but had to PTFB. It's just so tired, stale & miserable. All the great coaches suck. College hoops suck. The games suck. Upsets suck. Mercer sucks.

B&B suck.

Of course they loved Kentucky beating Wichita State

Their mission statement might as well be "Kentucky should always beat Wichita State"

How can the college game be inferior to a league where the games don't matter?

Besides that according to bernstein, when a college team has a bad night shooting it's evidence of a terrible game. When the HIGHLY PAID PROFESSIONALS have a bad night shooting... it's evidence of, uh, eh, uh, a bad shooting night.

The complaining about announcers mentioning "team play" is also pretty intolerable. For pretty much all the one and done players who lost over the weekend, it is easy to point out why the team was struggling and why less talented players were able to outperform them. It's not just an indictment of the future NBA draft pick on there. Most teams, including Kentucky, have struggled to fit in the one and done players this year.

I think it's becoming apparent that unless the one and done guys is exceptional, you may be better off building with guys who are going to give you two or three seasons.

I'm saying the level of play/skill/talent/whatever you want to call it. The vast majority of the guys playing in the NCAA tourney won't come within sniffing distance of an NBDL bench.

Yup. Look at Michigan and Michigan State.

You can say that about every college team sport.
