How can the college game be inferior to a league where the games don't matter?

I'm saying the level of play/skill/talent/whatever you want to call it. The vast majority of the guys playing in the NCAA tourney won't come within sniffing distance of an NBDL bench.

You can say that about every college team sport.

I know...which is why I was pointing out how frustrating it is for a show to beat the point to death like they are revealing some secret that no one had known until just now...

The complaining about announcers mentioning "team play" is also pretty intolerable. For pretty much all the one and done players who lost over the weekend, it is easy to point out why the team was struggling and why less talented players were able to outperform them. It's not just an indictment of the future NBA draft pick on there. Most teams, including Kentucky, have struggled to fit in the one and done players this year.

I think it's becoming apparent that unless the one and done guys is exceptional, you may be better off building with guys who are going to give you two or three seasons.

Id be interested in a study on that and a list of what rosters would look like if the NBA had the NFL's 3 years out of high school rule

B&B are pretty mellow today. No histrionics or scarecrows. No yelling at callers. Still time though...

Why not just let teams draft players and then keep them in college until they're ready?

wait, you mean the bigtiming the student journalists and literally lining them up to dress them down in semi-/public was the ice cream false pretense? or are these two separate incidents? if so what's this "ice cream social" you speak of?

i always assumed it was cuz coach K shat all over the student journalists JUST TRYING TO DO THEIR JOB and, by proxy, dan himself. cue that lover scorned remark from above.

He invited the journalists over to meet the team over ice cream and then he laid them out. I don't think there was ice cream.

And yeah, Dan always took it personally for someone who wasn't there. Had he been one of the kids who K screamed at, I would understand, but the proxy-outrage is a little much.

If there was no ice cream then that is truly a scumbag move. You dont joke around with ice cream.

How did he lay them out? (forgive me, this story is all new to me)

It would have been great if he came into the room of assembled nerds and started off his speech saying "I came here to kick ass and eat ice cream and we are all out of ice cream".

I really like the Bruins & have them in the final 4 on one of my brackets. Winning & pissing off Berns would be a bonus!

When news broke that the Bears had made a withdrawal from the "bank of Cutler," he and Terry speculated the money could be intended for a backup QB, which led to their oft-repeated insistence that the reason Emery didn't want McCown around was mainly because of meatball fans who created a bogus QB controversy. Yeah, Emery wouldn't want to re-sign a guy who exceeded every expectation because it might make his $120 million man nervous. What a joke.

Right because if your backup plays the season us over

Brady, Warner, Hostetler,

Cassell, McCown, Orton to some extent

This is the same show that tells us that smart executives don't listen (or care) what fans think, yet, they were not bringing McCown back because they do care what fans think.

Of course, both Boers and Bernstein both claim to have independent sources telling them this as well, which is also entertaining.

The reality is that McCown got a starting opportunity elsewhere, and got paid more than the Bears could afford to allocate to that position. I'm going to go with that as my reason, and not some made up source with a ridiculous theory.

Bernstein's source, "who has never been wrong," appears to be wrong on Shaka Smart signing with Marquette. It's funny because Dan initially said he could not find a reputable source to substantiate the rumors that were flooding twitter, but then when it seemed he was afraid he'd be the last one to know, he gets the timely e-mail/text from his impeccable source telling him it's basically a done deal and they just have to dot the i's and cross the t's. Yeah....

It's always a done deal until it's not and then it never was. Why do you even care? Smart to Marquette imminent. Uh, eh, look, again, yeah, yeah, that sounds about right, at least um, eh, that's what my guys says, but look, again *SIGH* sometimes these things are done and then they aren't, for the love of God, that doesn't mean your source was wrong, it uh, look, em, em uh, it means things change, sometimes things change.

Why does that shit even matter? Who the fuck in Illinois cares what Shaka Smart is doing? Does anyone tune in to B&B to hear what's going on in the college hoops hot stove league? This is a long way of asking why Dan needs to source/break a story few people care about in the first place.

Short answer - Dan knows he has become a shock jock and likes to pretend to be a journalist every once in awhile so he can feel better about himself and convince himself that he isn't the sports radio version of Mancow. He blocks article comments, doesn't check this board, and uses his hand picked twitter followers like Maddux Boy and QuadCittlyPat to reenforce this ever diminishing feeling.

Well, in spite of B&b's clear hostility toward college hoops, there are still plenty of fans of NCAA athletics that listen to the show. Beyond that, there are a large number of Marquette grads in the Chicago area. I just find it amazing that a guy who has such contempt for college sports suddenly has a trusted source who covers them. There is much less surprise when said "source" turns out to be wrong.

And this might be one of the rare occasions when dan ignores his beloved Deadspin:

You would think his go to college basketball expert would be his old classmate but I don't imagine their bond is very strong.

He not only has 'a' trusted source, he said he has many across college basketball, just not one in the Milwaukee area (unless that has suddenly changed) unless that suddenly changed.

Yes; one of the (imho) most interesting episodes of any of the incarnations of Star Trek.

No, Dan has always appreciated the humor behind Gwar. They've come up several times. I remember one time he directed listeners to Gwar doing a cover of some song on The AV Club.
