I disagree. Youve got to draft starters in rounds 1-3. Period. Love me some alshon, but it doesn't erase the stink of missing on everyone else, including picks one and three.

Get a Pro Bowl player each year and you are doing well. I would assume that not EVERY other pick is going to be Mc Clellin, Hardin or Rodriguez

I think it's safe to assume not every other pick will be a bust, but even then I'd probably prefer a batch of solid but unspectacular starters. I think a minimally satisfactory draft is one in which several picks go on to become starters. Pro bowlers are even better, of course, but solid depth is more preferable imo. That's why I can't get behind Emerys first draft even if alshon becomes Megatron. Imagine how much more effective we would be if we were able to combine alshon with productive starters at the very least in two other picks, to which we would add long and bostic this year, etc. Missing on 2012 deprived the Bears of a chance to surround any stars they have with competent teammates.

I would be happy if Emery could draft a safety or linebacker that can play football at a NFL level. Low hurdle to clear.

Mully's draft guy told him "there's no way the Bears can screw this up. There will be too many good players available"

We'll see.

I think Emery might be the kind of guy that does a "reach" with pick 14. I'm hoping he just goes with the flow.

Necessity probably being the biggest variable in the equation but the 2014 draft of defensive players has produced some talent and depth. Fuller is playing like ROY stud, Ferguson and Sutton are having an impact, and guys like Vereen have had to step up and deliver. Considering his first draft (Jeffery) the 2014 is clearly his best.

Fuller is a stud. Im gonna wait on the other guys until I see a little bit more. So far so good.

I still don't see why a draft pick was wasted on a punter.
But since this team is clearly on a path to the Super Bowl, i'll let it go. For now.

It would also look better if he appeared to be better than any guy they could have brought in off the street for tryouts.

Emery is getting it done. He's a huge upgrade from the dufus before him. Same can be said for Trestman too.

It was said that Emery goes after high ceiling guys, which results in boom/bust picks. Given that Shea is a joke, but Long and Fuller look like studs, maybe that is the case. The prior regime was said to go with safe floor picks. I really don't know, and it seems too early to judge, but Long, Jeffery, and Fuller could be Bears for a very long time with Pro Bowls on their resumes.
