you know because tea party or something but really because I'm on a Zappa kick today.

B's won twelve in a row before they dropped a shootout to the Habs. They do everything well and nothing poorly. Be afraid, be very afraid. That's about all I got; I don't really scout Boston like I should. 149 goals against in 72 games is insane, though, and they're no slouches on offense, either, 3rd in the league as of today. They're the only team averaging at least a 2:1 scored/allowed ratio, the mark of a truly elite team. Boston's record is vastly superior to Chicago's, but note that they play in a vastly inferior conference. The Hawks would have 47 ROWs instead of 37 if they got to beat up on Buffalo and Florida.

I also know Boston might have an even better fourth line than we do. Julien entrusts Paille, Thornton, and Campbell with a lot of minutes, and hard ones, at that, which keeps Bergeron, Krejci, and Lucic nice and fresh. Oh, and Jarome Iginla is always lurking and is actually second in scoring with 28+30, behind only Krejci's 60. That's remarkable. I loved Iginla with Calgary; he was one of my favorite players to watch in the otherwise depressing Dead Puck Era. Can't root for him tonight. Bruins are about equal with the Hawks on both sides of uneven-strength play. It'll be a hell of a game.

Hawks can clinch a playoff berth if they win tonight, though that might be contingent on a few other outcomes. But who cares? We know this is a playoff team. The players have known this is a playoff team since January; maybe that's why they've sucked so much ass since January. They're in the playoffs, they're playing the Avs, it's just a matter of whether they get 1,2, and 7 at home when they do it. And I can't tell if they will. It's about 51/49 they finish second, best I can tell.

Let's hope Teuvo doesn't get abused tonight. I might be inclined to hold him out of the lineup altogether and save him for Ottawa tomorrow night. Morin is on the roster and I wouldn't mind seeing him again.

This David Rundblad situation, though, yikes. I don't know what the problem is there, but Stan might have gotten burned pretty bad on this one. I hope not, though, because there aren't many GMs I hate more than Don Maloney, that smug prick who has never won anything and gets shit-tons of credit for finding undrafted schmucks on the waiver wire and having them block shots. His line about how we reacted to the Torres on Hossa hit like Torres "killed a busload of children" ascertained once and for all what a shitsmear he is.

Hawks: 42-16-15 (99), 37-23-13 adjusted (87), 94.903 expected
Bruins: 49-17-6 (104), 47-19-6 (100), 103.229 expected

Hawks: 3.274 scored (1st), 2.466 allowed (9th), 0.808 differential (3rd)
Bruins: 3.167 scored (3rd), 2.069 allowed (2nd), 1.097 differential (1st)

Hawks: 48/234 20.5% on the power play (6th), 188/230 81.7% on the kill (16th)
Bruins: 41/202 20.3% on the power play (7th), 200/239 83.7% on the kill (9th)

Prepare for lots of Game 6 footage! 17 seconds 17 seconds 17 seconds 17 seconds 17 seconds 17 seconds 31 losses out of 73 this year but also 17 seconds!

Counterintuitive but Boston is 17-4-4 vs the West and 17-8-2 against their shitty division. They're all but guaranteed to repeat as Eastern Conference representatives unless Price/Lundqvist steals a series from them.

Bruins have always been my 2nd favorite team from the Orr /Esposito years through the Borque /Oates / Neely era so games against them are always bittersweet for me. Justhope nobody from either side gets hurt tonight as I see Boston being really physical tonight. Good call on keeping the rookie out of the game CH, Morin has a bit of red ass in him and can protect himself better. Ill be watching , should be a good game.

Yeah, part of it is about keeping him from getting banged up when he doesn't have to be, but it's just as much about still trying to slide his contract if it turns out we don't need him for the playoffs after all. The 23-man roster limit goes away after the trade deadline, so they shouldn't feel obligated to play him if there are other guys who can step in ably.

I'm sure the Hawks will play him anyway. Perfect at the faceoff dot!

I hope I'm wrong, but I think this is one of those games where the Blackhawks get the barn doors blown out. Watched the Bruins the other night and they are like freaking animals with the puck. Possible cup final matchup and we get to hear all about 17 seconds again.

Could be, but the Hawks have been good at limiting blowouts against. One was to the Avs in a game where they just weren't there, and the other was against the Perds when Khabibulin died and Crawford went all Dante Hicks. They've handled themselves admirably against the other five true contenders (Blues, Sharks, Ducks, Bruins, Penguins), either winning or not getting their asses kicked. Maybe that means they're due for one, though!

Checking out the Bottom Lounge tonight. May hit some of the Committed Indian guys over the head with a fish, whatever that means.

I'm not really worried about Teuvo getting beat up. Seems like he's got the awareness and quickness to avoid bit hits.

Go back and sit in your van until the Hawks score.

Boston is only 37-5-1 when scoring first. Gotta like the Hawks chances still. I'm sure Crawford will wake up and stop being a useless pud now.

Still in NYC, have the second bad cold of the last three months and staying in my room, which means of the 20-odd channels they bother to pay for, the extent of sports is ESPN and 2. I won't be watching. Guess I'll stream the radiocast.

Let's maybe put the Gretzky comparisons on ice for awhile for Teuvo. Maybe let him get a point first and then continue.

Yup. I knew that was gonna fucking happen. But yeah, they needed the help on defense right there I guess.

Does it really matter? Anyone expect them to even tie it down 2 with 13 minutes left, the way they're playing?

Did you expect them to go from losing to winning the Stanley cup in 17 seconds?

No I don't expect them to win tonight, but crap, Corey gets on my nerves.

I don't expect them to, but it seems a hell of a lot more manageable than 3-0.
