incidentally, the internet aristocrat got around to making a video on this and per usual it's pretty much fucking spot on and thusly excellent (he puts in a lot of work on the "Social Justice Warrior" / tumblr scene pointing out the absurdity of it all to those of us laymen (and spaulding/RFDC) who aren't up to date on the groundbreaking concepts like "ableism"

if you watch the video, it turns out that the suez canal chick who started this shit is a professional "social justice warrior" (SJW) speaker who gets paid to show up at your school / convention / business / whatever and give speeches about >MUH FEELINGS/FREEDOMS/FEMINISMS because..... she's a professional authority on such things. her twitter and facebook bios say as much.

colbert have a 1/4assed apology to her twitter account via his actual/personal @stephenathome account and she declared that the apologiy is not enough. basically you can tell her endgame is to end up getting on his show and advertising herself that way, as clearly no apology short of "get my brand advertised on tv" will be enough. nevermind that colbert's schtick is using sarcasm to make fun of these viewpoints and thus he's on the same side of her when it comes to this, nope, it's all about >MUH FEELINGS and "YOU DON'T JOKE ABOUT SOMETHING THAT IMPORTANT" when FEELINGS are involved, so clearly the only way to "make this right" is to give her the colbert * fistbump* bump via an appearance on the rv show, which you know she'll end up getting because for better or worse this is publicity for all parties involved and both sides weill milk it for all it's woirth.

i can only hope stephen runs circles around her as brilliantly as he did those two dolts from operation wall street >> http://thecolbertreport.cc.com/videos/d ... reet-pt--1 >> (part 2) >> seriously, that is some of the most brilliant television i've seen on tv in the last 5-10 years. he literally spins circles around their heads so fast he leaves them with halos as he walks away.... in other words, to use a boersism, he shoves it up their giggy and makes 'em like it.

"DID SOMEONE MENTIONING SHOVING IT UP AND GIGGY?"

Don't black comedians do this? I know Chris Rock has.

While I don't find it offensive, I don't care if someone does. I do care that people constantly want to cancel things. It's getting absurd. If you don't like it, don't watch.

It's not that simple though. If someone had a show that used racial slurs toward blacks and mocked them I know I wouldn't watch it. I also would have an issue with sponsors and a network that was okay with a show like that being on air. I think if you replaced black with Asian in this case many more people wouldn't think it was okay.

That's probably true.

It is poor form to use racial stereotypes to point out other people's racism. I've said many times Colbert isn't really that talented. I know he entertains teenagers who think its news, but I don't feel like I'm missing much by not watching his show.

So, what if it was a mistake? What if he slipped one time? What if it wasn't even him? Even if we agree that it is offensive, you don't find our society childish by crying "cancel" every time anyone gets mildly offended? Things are said. Words matter. But if you don't like it, don't watch. The constant threat of cancellation is neutering our society.

RPB pointed this out, but he's done the exact same thing with the exact words on his show. Kind of eliminates the mistake/slip of the tongue(fingers) angle.

Comedians on a Comedy channel should get a pass. I dont want to live in a world where comedians cant make jokes about people.

I don't want to live in a world where comedians who aren't that funny are overhyped because they have a show on Comedy Central. There are clever ways Colbert could have used to make his point. Saying Ching Chong Ding Dong isn't one of them.

I watched the Wednesday show yesterday and thought him showing old clips of his bit and saying the actual words that were tweeted would piss some people off.

Yes, not defending the bad joke, but rather the right to make the bad joke.

But if it were defter than "Ching Chong Ding Dong," it wouldn't fit the character of a Fox News blowhard, would it?

And yeah, SJWs suck. Damn tired of the haves trying to take the internet away from the have-nots. S'all we gots!

Yeah, I agree with that. Let the people decide collectively if the comedian/show is too offensive to stay on the air. If there's enough backlash, the sponsors will walk, the ratings will drop, and the show will be cancelled.

I guess not. I just don't see why this type of show is so entertaining. Fox News does a fine job of self-parody. I don't think its all that entertaining to mock them. Shooting fish in a barrel.

Speech police assemble on reddit!

Slightly off-topic: This guy's show just isn't funny. It's a show for armchair lefties who want to convince themselves they have above average intellects. I watched his alleged signature moment when he did the White House correspondents dinner. I maybe chuckled a few times. I get the jokes. They're not complicated with layers of satire. I just don't find it to be such subversive lampooning comedic genius.

There's no "if" involved. The show you're talking about was called Chappelle's Show, and we all watched it.

Surely we can understand the difference between a black comedian mocking blacks. That's complete different than a satirical comedy show by someone that isn't black.

You also could say it was about how they mocked Asians.

That was comedy show. What Colbert does isn't the same. That's why he doesn't cross that line. For some reason he does for Asians.

Chapelle made fun of everyone.

I liked when the asians drafted the Wu Tang clan.
