Sad, screaming for change. RT @ZachZaidman DePaul finishes regular season 11-20. They've lost at least 20 games in 4 of the last 5 seasons.

What a joke this program continues to be. How much are they paying Purnell? Isn't this like year 3 or 4 for him??

Heard the Mark Aquirre interview today on The Game. Give him a shot at that program.

They laid this body to rest years ago, but somehow exhuming the corpse and propping it up in the South Loop will bring it back to life.

They danced on its grave by having Zach Zaidman call the games.

first of all, the hole has become so deep, it is a massive undertaking that needs new life and this love affair with the girls programs and former athletes AKA Jean Lenti Ponseto needs to end!

@ChSportsNetwork
@RodStrick (head coach), Rick Malnati and Kleinschmidt, my desire to coach DePaul. hole gets deeper every year! #SHAMEFUL #depaulmenshoops

Strickland much better than people think. Really knows his shit, if he is willing to take the job, I want him.
Rick Malnati. Great coach, great contacts, great guy.
Kleinschmidt - ex depaul guy, local HS coach, need to stay in the system.
and I will take one Public Leaguer to be on the staff.

I know so many guys that would love to come out of the wood work as DePaul fans. the guys who went to school there and the guys that grew up in Chicago with DePaul as their team!

Yup, DePaul was a much bigger draw than the Bulls! right before Jordan.

You'd think someone there would realize get a coach who can recruit Chicago and as Aguirre said today, 1 elite recruit can turn that program around. And that athlete (and coach) can write his own ticket.

I see no reason why DePaul basketball can't rise up to the same level as, say, Northwestern football. If it were something the school wanted to do, they could get a lot of that presence back. As it stands, I'm surprised the Horizon hasn't evicted them for event dates that can fill more seats. They must pay good rent.

How a coach with 4 NBA players didnt make the NCAA tourney is still amazing.

They had McFadden too! Went to Europe, then played in the NBA.

Q was going to Kansas until the night before. $$$

Maybe I am remembering it wrong, but I thought the program was respectable under Ray Meyer...his kid Joey ran it into the ground. there was a brief period it looked good under Kennedy with Quentin Richardson n Simmons and Hunter...but he left for Virginia n the progressed regressed. Pathetic to see how abysmal this program is.

You are remembering wrong. They were more than respectable with Joey most of the time. True, he only won like 3 games or something his last season. But Bradshaw wanted him gone regardless. It was like a mom and pop business run by the Meyer family and Bradshaw could see that the era of sports as big business was upon us. Joey (and Ray who was still hanging around) had to go.

But it wasn't without consequences. Ray Meyer wasn't the kindly old grandpa the media made him out to be in his later years. I'm sure bigfan can attest to that, having played at his camp. This was a salty dude. And kind of a hardass. He was understandably outraged at what happened to Joey and Ray made sure a bunch of the old time boosters stepped away from the program.

Bradshaw went the greasy route with Kennedy and put together his new network. They brought in the players, but Kennedy couldn't coach them. They ran into problems there obviously. So then they dialed back to a mom and pop with Jeanie running the show. They just don't want to dedicate the resources.

this is an unfair statement in my opinion. joey led that team to quite a few ncaa tournaments in a row and had a good deal of success far beyond riding on his father's coat-tails. he had two losing seasons at the end of his run, the last one being a total disaster 3 or 4 win season. Bradshaw immediately pulled the plug on him without giving him even a chance to re-build the program, and it has been a revolving door of a program ever since. He wouldnt kiss Sonny Cox's ass and that was taken as some kind of sign of weakness. At least Joey had a history of winning at that school extending long after his dad retired. Everyone was so eager to get rid of him and the university caved to public pressure and gave him a quick axe. Now the program is second-rate and no coach would look for this to be his final destination. The school quit on Joey, not the other way around.

Many schools have an affiniti for their own people. They have their own people that are lifers in the athletic department.

They are responsible, good workers, smart, etc, but thats all they are judged on. Girls that played softball, volleyball, basketball, have a high tendency to work hard at whatever job they get and generally very responsible.

And thats what dePaul has. a Former Softball player running the AD! Thus in her mind the womens softball is just as important as the mens basketball programs. They used a $10=20 mill piece of a land to build the womens softball field on campus! This was the former field that all IM games were on. Do you think that could have been done almost anywhere else in the city?

There is your dePaul problem! They look at mens basketball as just another program that should be treated like the others.

I know they think they got this new stadium and this will solve things. WRONG. The hole is so deep, they could fuck it up easily still.

Rahm is right in building the facility, now dePaul needs to do their part! If you think about how big college basketball is and chicago has no part in it with a multitude of schools that suck.

The state of college basketball in Illinois is embarrassingly pathetic. This state is loaded with great High School ballers year after year they all go out of state to college. Certainly cant blame them. It should not be like this.

College is a fun place to go. It's a different environment from living in Chicago. Even NIU on a Dreary day probably appeals more to a kid who has been living in the city. Then he gets to attend a BBall or Football game, which even at a small school is usually more of an event than anything they have done in heir lives.

DePaul gives them none of that. DePaul gives them a dorm room at Sheffield and Fullerton and you need to walk to classes or take the El downtown for any real classes outside of Philosophy. No amazing practice facility to hang out at, eat meals at, study (some do), then walk to this cool arena you play in. These kids get none of that feeling they get everywhere else.

When they visit DePaul, they tell them about some guys who were #1 way before they were alive and how they could be the ones who make that again.

By no means does this new stadium solve the problems, but it gives them a second chance to get off life support.

Depaul's basketball facilities cant even compare to St. Xavier.

I agree, it's, a huge issue.

Most programs now have a facility for the players. It's not only a great place to practice, but the trainer is there, the coaches offices, a players lounge and a kitchen. Many places have this facility very close to the players NEWER dorms.

DePaul has nice facilities, as they somehow pulled something on a land lease deal with the townhomes at the corner of Sheffield and Fullerton. But, it's still living next to the El either way you cut it.

The perks of playing at Depaul are very few and I am guessing the 'pencil money' isn't great either.
