Cubs fans still are. They are about to suffer thru their 4th consecutive 90 loss season in the hopes that a World Series is right around the corner because of The Plan.

The best record that was actually a serious post I have read on this board from Sox fans is that the team has a chance to get to .500. Yeah, we're really shooting for the moon with this year's club aren't we?

If the Sox lose 88 games this year, its an improvement. The Sox have almost an entirely new bullpen, a new leadoff man and CF, a new bench, a Cuban slugger, 2 new starting pitchers, a platoon in LF, and a new 22 year old RF who appears to have all of the tools to be a force in the middle of the Sox lineup for years to come. Hahn's team lost 99 games last year and he almost completely retooled on the fly. The Cubs....well, they have some good pieces in the minors and in the Domincan so hang your hat on that if you want.

Who has said the Sox will be great? In the predictions thread in the Sox section, the most optimistic prediction is a .500 ballclub.



I don't think its over for Castro quite yet, but he must show some significant improvement this year. If he stays stagnant or regresses, it might be time to move on from him.

I notice you used the term 'new' instead of 'good' or 'proven' multiple times.

I also noticed that most analysts project the White Sox to lose 87-97 games. I see most analysts project the Cubs to lose 87-99 games.

Both teams could outperform the projections, sure. Not sure how you see the Cubs at such a guaranteed disadvantage throughout the year. Come the trading deadline, they could lose some of their current players...but I think this year, unlike last year, there could be some players coming up that might be able to replace (or improve upon) whatever production was lost in the trade.

So the Sox are better equipped because they are playing all their new players to start in the MLB this season? They can still lose around 90 games and you will be OK with that. Cubs fans are idiots because their new players are still in the minors and tracking to come up later this season and next.

I guess I'm just confused as to why Abreu and Eaton have their all star invites already and that is OK but only because they are currently in the MLB and have 2 games under their belt.

The Cubs and Sox have the same plan. The Sox players are here to start this season and the Cubs players will begin to arrive this season.

The Sox big league team has more talent but if the experts are correct the Cubs farm will generate far more talent than what Hahn can do making good trades.

I hope the projections for both teams are off this year. It would be great to see a stretch where both teams have playoff caliber rosters. The older I get the less the Cubs/Sox meatballery matters, and I just want to see Chicago teams win in all sports.

I attend both team's game. Go on road trips to see each team. But this board bring out the da fire and pashen meatballery out of me. I don't know why.

Despite the oh-so-enticing meatball humor found by some in phrasing it that way, "losing 90+ games" isn't some precisely stated goal that the Cubs have. It is a likely short-term consequence of their longer-term plan.

As an aside, I'm curious if you reckon that a team that (by your words) sets out to lose 90+ games and does so is demonstrably less successful or distressing than a team that (apparently) does not set out to lose 90+ games yet does.

I think Hank needs to check the Cubs schedule out. In May the Cubs play the vaunted White Sox, Cardinals twice, Brewers, Giants...
