So, yesterday I take my 11-month-old puppy (mostly lab) to the park for the first time this year. There are about 10 other dogs there. One of them is a huge German Shepherd. My puppy is about 50 pounds, and the German Shepherd was probably 100. My pup is getting along fine with the other dogs, as he always does. He is a very calm, non-aggressive dog.

The German Shepherd starts biting my dog and then tries to mount him. My dog bites him back a little and runs, as he is half the size. But the German Shepherd keeps following him and fucking with him. He was trying to exert dominance of some sort. My puppy keeps biting and trying to fight back, but he's just too small. Then comes the mounting. He keeps trying to mount my dog, and my dog keeps getting pissed. I go up and start pushing the Shepherd off.

I then yelled out "whose dog is this?" Some goofy-looking middle-aged woman in a trench coat meakly says "mine." So I said "can you please tell him to leave my dog alone?" She doesn't say anything and doesn't do anything to her dog. The next time he tries biting my dog, she walks up and hugs her dog and starts talking to him, almost like a "timeout" with kids. I said to her "you might want to discipline him or yell something when he is harassing my dog. He is big, and it's your job to keep your dog under control at the park."

But it doesn't stop. He will NOT leave my dog alone. So then her husband comes up and proceeds to not do anything. So I explode in front of everyone at the park, chew their asses out, and explain that they have a HUGE German Shepherd that they shouldn't take to the park if they can't control him. They stared at me blankly and NEVER said a word. I think the guy was afraid I was going to blast him, and I was close. We ended up having to leave. What the fuck is wrong with people?

I have a friend who trains German Shepherds for Agility. He always likes to say, "If you're not the Alpha, your dog is." One time I went over to this guy's house and when I stepped on his driveway one of his dogs began to charge me as if it was going to rip out my throat. My friend turned and yelled, "Sitz!" and the thing immediately stopped and went into a sitting position. Then he yelled "Platz!" and the dog went all the way down on his belly and had a look of a shamed Beta.

Yep. The dog park is an interesting place to watch. It's easy to tell which dogs become dominant and which submit. I'll be the first to admit that my dog is not dominant.

But it's also fun to watch how people and dogs interact. You can see that most of the dogs who act weird have weak owners. They are just people who come off as weak-willed. The dogs sense it and they respond accordingly.

Sounds like your dog got" Backesed". You'll see the same behavior at mall play areas with kids . Ignorant fucking parents with kids 4 inches and 3 years past the max requirements to be in the area running roughshod over all the other kids while mom texts away totally oblivious. I've had more than a few confrontations over this .

My wife and I were at Buffalo Wild Wings in Northbrook and we were sitting at one end of the room and there were about six or eight kids running wild all around our table while we ate. I'm sitting there steaming, like "what the fuck." There was only one other table in the area where three couple were sipping wine and having leisurely conversation far away from these rambunctious little bastards who were annoying the shit out of me. It was obvious that these brats belonged to them. On our way out my wife walked up to their table an said, "Nice job controlling your children." A guy at the table said, "Those aren't our kids." What a fucking pussy!

Also, a friend of mine used to own a restaurant in Northbrook called Tong's Hunan. One day a large North Shore family came in and by the time they were finished the place looked like a bomb had gone off. My guy told me there was fried rice on the floor around the table up to his ankles. Their kids were running around and throwing shit and wreaking havoc. When she was paying the bill, the mother said to my friend, "We're a little messy. Tee hee giggle giggle." My friend said to her, "I would like to request that you never enter my restaurant again." Of course the broad was appalled and got all indignant. My friend said, Look, lady, I wouldn't come to your house and let my kids make a mess. Well, this is my house." The family stormed out. Good for my guy.

I don't take my dog to the dog park any more. Too many crazies and it stressed me out.

Went to the park quite a bit this week. Today, two pit bulls were there. One seemed pretty aggressive and was clamping necks just a little bit. So I decided just to walk around the outside with my pup and feel things out. Within five minutes, it happened... the two pit bulls started barking loudly and went at it. One had the other by the neck and would not let go. The owners tried to break it up; but they couldn't get him off. It went on for about a full minute. Finally they got the one off after hitting him and pouring water on him.

The owners hands were cut up, as was the attacked dog. Blood everywhere. I went in after the pits left, and a guy there told me it wasn't the first fight at the park for the attacker! Are you kidding? If your dog is a pit bull and is prone to fights, don't bring him to the fuckin dog park! The scene today was a bit disturbing. People are idiots.
