Right. I'm saying that they should be treated differently. I don't think implying that white people aren't quick is the same as implying that black people aren't smart.

So I will ask the base questions again.

What was Anthony referring to?

How many times can I answer this question? EVEN IF I AGREE THAT HE WAS REFERRING TO THEIR WHITENESS, IT IS A RIDICULOUS COMPARISON TO INTELLIGENCE.

Two questions for you:

- Is implying that whites are slow the same as implying that blacks are dumb?

- Do I have to be black to use their history as a frame of reference when discussing racial issues?

- Is implying that whites are slow the same as implying that blacks are dumb? Yes, both stereotypes and bad

- Do I have to be black to use their history as a frame of reference when discussing racial issues? No you don't

Yet, you still havent answered my question of what do you think Greg Anthony meant.

You continue to answer a question about comparing intelligence to quickness is some way, which isn't the question.

WHAT DO YOU THINK GREG ANTHONY MEANT?

I disagree with that. Why is it any less offensive? its judging people less able based on the color of their skin in both examples. To argue the degree of how offensive one or the other is just semantics.

Well, if we can't agree that one is worse than the other, then we won't ever agree. I find one to be FAR worse than the other, and I don't think it's semantics. No white person will ever be discriminated against because of a perception that they are slow. The other one has happened a lot throughout history and will continue to happen. There are far more societal ramifications to the second assumption, and probably none for the first assumption. I guess I'll just stop there because we won't agree.

I've tried. I can't do it. I want so badly to post in the hockey section, but I just can't get into it.

Posting in the hockey section is easy. Just do what I do. Wait till a Hawk scores and then write ____!!!! Or when the other team scores just post "Fuck." And always root for fights. That's all I really got for now.

If you want to scrutinize people for thoughts and equal application of punishments, then why isn't greg anthony asked about this?

i don't believe bigfan is making a statement about whether steve kerr would be right to point something like this out. to me, this is an absolutely believable scenario based on how race is used as a buzz word in order to trigger (yawn) "controversy" by making a careless statement and having it blown out of proportion.

a blunt example, that did happen, is rush being excused from ESPN for saying "america is desirous for having an african american quarterback do well in the NFL". when he said that on the air, because i was watching, no one took offense nor did anyone challenge him on it. the next day, it was reported that rush made racist comments about donovan mcnabb and suddenly it spiraled into rush being some kind of nazi or something. then they fired him. the most dumbfucker thing about it is that rush was hired because he was controversial. now he makes a controversial statement and he's fired for it? the other thing is...what if he was right? can we please stop hiding behind our insecure cynicism in popular (sports or otherwise) culture and admit it when there's a point to be made? was it because rush said it that made it bad? the word "racist" has been stretched so thin, it barely has any real meaning...which is usually when it becomes the most dangerous.

how many times do we see idiotic statements becoming lightning rods for "racism arguments". give me a break. it's almost like it's blown out of proportion for the sake of being blown out of proportion--not to actually bring to light anything remotely useful or thought provoking.

Big Fan is right. Greg Anthony is racist.

I don't think they hired Rush because he was controversial. I think it was because he was very popular with huge promotional capacity as well a big football fan. I also think what he said was both wrong and (at least) borderline racist.
What's the difference between Rush Limbaugh and the Hindenburg? One is a big Nazi gas-bag...and the other is a dirigible.

Leash chose to not answer the simple question, but rather create a different scenario from which happened and than argue that point. He tried to focus on a hypothetical statement that I used as an example versus the actual statement said by Anthony.

I don't think Anthony is racist, he made a statement that even if Steve Kerr made the exact same statement it would have drawn attention.

I get bigfan's point.

Let's say he wasn't stereotyping white people at all. If a white announcer said about an all black squad "this may surprise you but I think they're the smarter team", it would lead to a shit storm, it doesn't matter if there was anything racial about it or not. But a black man saying the quickness comment about an all white squad, racial or not, is no big deal. It's a double standard and a good observation.

I see and agree with LYK's point about the false equivalency between speed and intelligence. That being said, and it helps if we ignore completely BF's hypothetical, Anthony's comments do have racial undertones, and he should have been taken to task for saying what he said.

Couldn't Anthony have made the same comment if KY were playing DePaul? It still would be applicable yet with no racial undertone.

I guess, and I don't know much about the teams involved anyway, so it could be possible like others have mentioned here that the comment had more to do with info on UW's speed and athleticism as opposed to race. Just following this discussion in general, it seems like the race angle stuck out more than anything else.

Yes, I chose to focus on the hypothetical scenario that YOU created.

If you had just made the point that you thought what Anthony said was wrong and moved on, this wouldn't have been an issue. Instead, as is typically the case, you brought up Jessie Jackson and some other nonsense.

Is it seriously escaping people as to why the double standard exists? Slow and dumb are not equivalent.

Yes, but the PC police (aka Bigfan) are out in full force!
