I don't know; it's game 7 in a for-shit season ... I'd rather he Quenneville the lineup for a month or so early on to see what's actually what rather than make his best guess then feel like he has to diddly-fuck with it in early June.

Let Strop get out of the inning or go down in flames. It was a 6-6 game. Say Russell gets out he already used Grimm, and Schlitter. There'd only be white flag guys in Wright and Veras left.

Well, I can't say that seems like a bad idea ... not truthfully ... still, I guess if we're going to hope the Cubs folks have an idea of what they're doing, we'll hope Ricky does too.

Smart move by Ricky. I wouldn't want to see what shitshow will commence with Veras on the mound either.

I can't get upset with this loss. Minus Edwin Jackson.

Also being a week into the season, I'd like to proceed with a more static lineup most days...

Bonifacio CF
Castro SS
Rizzo 1B
Valbuena 2B
Castillo C
Kalish RF
Olt 3B
Lake 2B

Correct.

I maintain that this team will not be nearly as bad once we have a couple more bats called up; such a relatively small change may well pay dividends significantly larger than it otherwise normally would.

I know Lake bailed us out in that extra inning game in Pittsburgh playing as a 5th infielder but I want to keep that as a last resort dealio.

Don't let Nasty Nate off the hook for last night. He was awful in right field. Bad reads, weak throws and missed cuts. There was not even an attempt to throw home on that sac fly marte scored on because his arm is so weak. He also miserably struck out with a runner on 3rd and 1 out earlier in the game. Just a bad game from a guy I usually think plays pretty well.

I meant Lake as LF.

I'm on all the medicines.

That game is exactly why a real MLB player would have made a difference last night.

Losing does become contagious and it makes players not give a shit after a period of time. A real LF or CF on this team batting behind Rizzo would just be a much better option.

This doesnt mean to not stick with the youth movement, but this team needs leaders and we all know they have the $$$ on the salary side.

The guy who fits that role perfect, Dejesus. The guy they had here, $5 per year, for 2 years, they easily could have matched or beat that from the Rays.

bigfan knows. He posts about it all day. Him and Scorehead always post in absolutes because they apparently know everything about everything. They make it very clear in their posts that they have all of the knowledge and tools to be the best GMs (for all chicago Pro teams), program directors, Mayor of Chicago, Gov of IL, and POTUS.

No... do not want.

A guy like that takes away at-bats from Lake and Kalish...guys you are trying to learn more about before the arrivals of Bryant, Almora, and Soler. Sure, a $10M commitment is nothing, even to a poor team, but it is about major league at-bats this season, and next season (though next season's results should be better.)

A Cubs fan should not be content with 70 wins over 65 wins. Both teams are garbage.

You're either all in with 'The Plan' or you're not. I can't be pissed off with this year's record since I believe, truly, that this will put the Cubs in a better position in 2016 and onwards. If you hate 'The Plan', then I could see where you might prefer 70 wins over 65 as you don't think the Cubs will be in a position to be .500 and above, starting next year, for the next decade.

But from 2000 through the end of Hendry's tenure I saw what results signing random veterans because you have the money does, and I didn't like.

You didnt like being an inning away from the world series or back to back playoff appearances??

Oh,ok. I thought you were talking a bit pricier.

Even though he already cost one team a WS win, I think Nelson Cruz would have been a nice addition this off season

I prefer sustained success, with a chance to make the playoffs every season.

2003 was nice, but that team and the 2004 team had an average age of like... 33. Neither team was stellar by any stretch.

2007 Cubs won a division with 85 wins. Good second half...but that team wasn't amazing. 2008 was a really good team that shit the bed. But just the same...a lot of big contracts and veterans on the decline.

I know, just playing devil's advocate. So far Hendry has had 1000X more success than the current regime.

So IMU, given the choice, you would prefer sustained success and playoff appearances over a World Series win?

That's a good point Frank. I'd trade places with the Sox right now. A WS win followed by an avg decade with no real big successes. Fuck yeah, I'd take 40 wins a season for 5 straight years if I KNEW a WS title was guaranteed.

The Cubs won a World Series in 2003? News to me.

No. A World Series win is everything - you seem to have agreed throughout the sum of your posts.

I cannot assign Theo and Jed any grade yet. They have an incomplete.

As much as people bitch about Vitters (and it is 100% warranted) Hendry also drafted Josh Donaldson with the 48th pick that year. He was in the package for Rich Harden, but that is a good pick.

Did I mention 2003? I posed a hypothetical question if you choose to answer it.

I'd take a World Series win.

But I don't want one. I want many.

And since teams cannot promise to suck if MLB allows them to win World Series, I don't need to 'get behind' a hypothetical.

I'm sure 2005 was great for you. But as a White Sox fan in 2014, do you say "I don't care if we win 40 games this season because we won a World Series a decade ago! That will hold me over for at least a decade more!" ?

I would agree with this BUT you cant win a WS unless you make the playoffs first. Hendry did accomplish that more than any of his predecessors...

Try for one first since its been well over a century. Gotta get one before you can 2, 3, or many.
