The Cubs won a World Series in 2003? News to me.

No. A World Series win is everything - you seem to have agreed throughout the sum of your posts.

I cannot assign Theo and Jed any grade yet. They have an incomplete.

No. That's a simplistic and lazy way of evaluating a GM. Theo and Jed getting an incomplete right now is fine, but the fact remains that they have a very long way to go just to equal Hendry's record of success here.

I would agree with this BUT you cant win a WS unless you make the playoffs first. Hendry did accomplish that more than any of his predecessors...

Fair.

The Cubs were 749-748 during his 9.5 year tenure as GM. 3 playoff berths. Fairly average, but the best stretch the Cubs had had in a long time.

Let's give this organization 9 and a half years.

If they don't start winning games pretty soon, there is no way in hell they get that long.

They started 127-197. Need to make up 10 games each of the next 7 seasons just to get to .500. That means we need to pencil them in around 90 wins a season. Not happening this year. They have some work to do :(

But again all this will be forgotten or forgiven if they turn into the Red Sox/Yankees West.

I agree. If they win 30% of the World Series from now until the year 2100 this will all be forgotten.

Curious to see an answer on this ....

I would love to think that I would give the Cubs at least 5 years bitching free... Although after the Hawks won, I wanted them to win the following year and got just as pissed when they didnt. And that is with the Hawks owning the 3rd place of fandom in my heart. I think that after the tears and hangover subsided, I would already be bitching about a middle reliever...

I find the question amusing coming from someone who just said "A World Series win is everything"

That year. A World Series is everything that year. You can only win that year's WS. Ive made this point in multiple threads.

Ill be happy when the cubs win and itll mean a lot. But you bet your ass if the Cubs dont win another the season after ill be upset.

Then maybe Theo should have put more talent on his MLB roster last year and the year before. He easily could have signed some stop gap guys on 2-4 year deals at reasonable prices to keep the big league club competitive, and still added to the farm system. Maybe you catch lightning in a bottle one year and make a cinderella type run.

Prolonged losing, especially if done intentionally, should never be accepted as any part of any grand plan. Never ever in MLB.

2005 will not hold me over in 2014, but if Hahn or the Sox came out and said "yeah, we're looking to 2017 or 2018" or some bullcrap like that as to when they next expect the team to compete that would be a different story. Its pretty clear with the moves the Sox have made that while maybe they don't expect to win now, they certainly know there is a possibility of them winning now. After a total choke job in 2012 and a 99 loss campaign, they have managed to give the team a new identity very quickly. Something we haven't seen in this city on either side of town for a long, long time.

Don't be stupid Frank. Sustained success leads to more playoff appearances. More playoff appearances, more chances you win the World Series. Whitesox fans are the main reason I can't stand the Whitesox. Annoying as shit.

Go back to the Whitesox thread and keep jerking about your "young prospect" Abreau.

You're more annoying than any Cub or Sox fan on here. And you're fucking up the stereotypes. Cub fans aren't supposed to be the ones obsessed with the White Sox, and yet you can't stop posting about them and their "annoying as shit" fans.

Olt I agree.

Lake is like Kalish, Sweeny and even Scheirholz. Would keep any of them that develop.

Lake being a Hendry holdover is already in the hole v Bahston refugees.

Top of the 6th inning at Cubs & PIRATES game......at Wrigley.
Spoiler Alert...not a Sox game.
I would like to thank the WGN camera for catching the 4 Sox fans covered head to toe in their Sox gear in the Wrigley bleachers.
Only thing that could enhance that stereotype would be if they ran on the field and beat a coach or umpire.

A seventh inning interview that wasn't awful. Gene Hiser wasn't that bad to listen to.
