On encore classics right now.

this is what you call vintage vintage. it's an 80's movie that takes place in the 50's. and it's one of the greatest coming of age stories ever put to film. the soundtrack alone is fucking priceless.

i don't want to hear it, someguy. the movie's a goddamn classic.

This movie is a goddamn classic. And I love a good soundtrack as much as you do.

But you're over-thinking it. Just decide if you want to see a dead body and if you actually know what Goofy is.

Kevin Kline and Glenn Close were good in that. An a new Jeff Goldblum and Tom Berenger.

Stand by Me,second greatest Steven King Movie ever.
Soundtrack is top 10 for me.
It does though capture a time in every boys life right before girls take over your world and all that matters is hanging out with your friends and doing stupid silly stuff like argue over what Goofy was. Sandlot is that kinda movie as well

Z - this movie has the wrong ending, doesn't it? They probably should have never seen/gotten to the body and probably gotten in differing degrees of trouble by their respective parents, right?

now you've done it.

no, the ending isn't about anything but the relationship between the kids. the discovery of the body of ray brower incites memories of gordie losing his older brother, which he feels guilty for because his parents were so fond of him. and they seem to care nothing for gordie. for the hoodlums, the body is simply freight. it's valuable freight, but freight nonetheless. maybe it's their ticket to being a celebrity in some way. either way, it's a possessiveness for them.

stephen king was all about kids and not really about parents in his nostalgic writing. if you think about "It" and "Dreamcatcher", along with this...the kids soak up the essence of the story while the adults mess with the melodrama. he never really found a balance to that.

but rob reiner and the screenwriters knew what they were harnessing. what makes "stand by me" great is that it's a kids movie...disguised as an adults movie...disguised as a kids movie. in that, we as kids grew up with this kind of camaraderie among ourselves but we never really had a dramatic story to go with it. so this movie creates that. adults movie because of the language, maybe even because as kids we don't get the underlying theme...but in all...it's a movie that really touches on universal themes we can relate to when we were growing up. we were always trying to prove something to someone else...we wanted a circle of people to be a support system. when we got that we were fulfilled.

yeah...sorry.
